Put my Valk on CL and had three people remark that the mileage (62k) was too high. I know if this was a Harley, one would have reason to be concerned. But I know that 62k on a Valk or a GW is barely broke in.
Right ?

At 62,000 miles the motor is just barely starting to loosen up a bit.
These bikes will do 300,000 miles when properly maintained.
That's a lot of tires!

That's not too high mileage, they are just looking for something with less miles I assume. There are some low mileage Valks still out there actually. I have seen some with even a little higher mileage than yours go for very good (low) prices.... and maybe that is what they were trying to insinuate and manipulate you to lower yours.

Tell them there is a VRCC member, DDT, that has 400+ thousand miles and he has only done basic maintenance.

Regards to high mileage.
62k isn't high mileage as it relates to the mechanical integrity of a Valkyrie.
62k can be high mileage when it relates to market value or asking price.
I got about 64k on my 99 Tourer. I'm confident that with continued regular maintainence the bike will perform well for a very long time.
I've no intention of selling it (ever) but if I had to, at this moment, I'd say $4500 would be what I'd be able to get. If it had less than 20k, I'd think $6500.
So is 62k high? If you're selling it, depends on the price.

I have nearly 66,000 on my Standard, runs as good as it did when I bought it at 8,000 miles.

My '97 Tourer has over 100K on her now. Doesn't use a drop of oil (always use Honda dino oil every 5 K) and has never needed anything other than normal wear items replaced - brake shoes, fork seals, etc. Oh yeah, and a shifter seal.....

my kid bro got $6500. for his and it had 120,000 on it. the buyer was smarter than the average bike buyer. anyone who thinks 62,000 is too much on a valk, don't know bikes.

Just to give you an idea of what I found when I bought my Valk this last spring, I saw MANY that were in the 60K range. It seemed that people either sell them at 10-20K or at 60K. Most of the low mileage, non-Interstates were in the $7000 range and the higher mileage ones were in the $5000 range. There were exceptions where people wanted way more and this is in an area where we may only get to ride 6 months out of the year.

+1 The statement High Mileage is kind of sellective. It is not high mileage for a valk, but it is high mileage for a motorcycle. Your miles are on the high side for the average listed bike. I've also been looking at buying another IS, and found the above statement to be true. Even though I want one with less than 40K, and and most likely will find one, I'm more interested in the color and CB than the total miles as long as it's less than 80K, for as long as there are bikes with lower mileage.

Great plan!! That means my '97 has only 9,000 miles. Had a guy looking my Valk over comment to me that I must not ride it very much. Had to let him know that it had joined the "Flipside".

but it is high mileage for a motorcycle. [/quote]
only true when speaking of a HD. in engineering high vibration in equipment means short life. there are plenty of bikes out there from the '80s to present with over 100k including aircool. i.e., the CB900s from the '80s are know to last over 100k, met an owner of an '82 CB900C once who had over 200k, only major maintainance was a carb rebuild, lots of o-rings to dry out in the kihein carbs of those eras. And of course do not forgot all of the airhead BMWs with over 100k, some as high as 400-500k on them.

To be honest with a bike like the Valk I'm MORE suspicious of a thirteen year old bike with very LOW mileage.

I recently had the opportunity to shop for a new scoot since my IS was “shot out from under me”. I rode it for 11+ years and have always said that I would by another one. I have thought that I might consider a new Wing, even though I’m at least 30 years too young for it. While awaiting for Allstate to muddle thru their bureaucratic shenanigans I did look at other bikes and my boss gave the greenlight for a new Wing, but I required her approval for any other based upon her back seat test ride. I rode 2 new HD’s, 2 new Wings, a Rocket, a Victory, the big Yamaha (don’t remember the model) and 7 Valks. I knew then that I wanted another 12 year old IS. The mileage on the Valks ranged from 4K to 80K, I found 2 low mileage Valks at northern dealers and made fair market offers contingent upon my inspection. I would gladly spend $100-$150 on a bus ticket to go fetch it, but they rejected my offers. I narrowed it down to 2 local bikes, one with 17K miles @ $8.9K and the other with 54K miles @ $7.5K, but with about $3K more “stuff” on it. To park them side by side and drive them you absolutely cold not tell any difference based upon mileage. I bought the higher mileage bike, but I do not consider it a high mileage bike. In 2000 I paid $13.5K for my new IS, this bike @ $7.5K in 2011 dollars is an absolute steal. Feels kinda like when I renewed my vows! Anyone who thinks 62K is a high mileage Valk does not know the bike.

My brother has a 92 FLHS. He will not ride it (less than 25 miles this year) because he is convinced that any HD with mileage in excess of 25K will not be worth anything.
He still claims that it is an "investment".

True dat. Bought my '97 in 2006 with 57K miles. Bought Kim's '98 in 2008 with 13,700 miles. Only 1,700 in the previous 7 years! Spent more time replacing a bunch of the rubber parts on Kim's bike than I ever did on my '97.

Bought my '97 Std. in December 2010 with 30K on it (put a deposit on it at the dealer)...started riding in mid-January and have 37K on it now, with a 2700 mile trip coming up in 3 weeks... When is this engine gonna break in?

Just tires, brakes and a rebuilt petcock for me at approx 70k. Speedo broke at 62k. Still haven't replaced it yet. I did a few burnouts today and a couple wheelies at work this morning. My chrome bumper thingy broke when I landed the front tire hard to the ground but it rides just like day one. I don't think these motors can get enough miles
