That's right up there with the brand new MLK memorial on the National Mall in DC being made in China... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_Luther_King,_Jr._National_MemorialIn October 2009, the memorial's final project was approved by federal agencies and a building permit was issued. Construction began in December 2009 and was expected to take 20 months to complete. The foundation conducted a press tour on December 1, 2010, as the "Stone of Hope" was nearing completion. At that time only $108 million of the $120 million project cost had been raised but saved $8 million by having the memorial made in China.

i don't know what to say.
i've seen so many companies moving manufacturing to china and mexico in the last ten years, it makes me wonder who do these companies plan to sell their products to when no one here will have a job that pays enough to afford thier products!!
i use to buy redwing boots until they moved thier production to china, i didn't care what they charged me for the boots 'cause i knew they were made with American quality and that they would (and did) last 5 years per pair. now, i can't find ANY work boot made in America, so it doesn't mean anything to me to buy a pair of cheap crap from wally world.
the thing that kills me about redwing boots is their price is still $200 a pair, when thier labor costs are zero!!

Now that is not only sad, but crazy! Seems to me that with all the money that is being wasted in CA, and with the lack of jobs there, that there was an opportunity for a useful way to maybe put in some subsidies to put some Americans to work. I wonder how big the difference in cost really was by the time you figure lost tax revenue from incomes that would have been earned building that project. Where the hell will it all end? Madness!!!

It is sad how we open up our markets to China but China has all kinds of tariffs and restrictions on our exports. This happened for decades with Japan and the saga continues with China. Another example of our politicians looking out for our best interests by catering to the lobbyists of the large corporations exporting our jobs to China.

I just checked mine Yes they are made in China!!! I live in an agricultural area in New York State, we are surrounded by apple orchards. In our local Shoprite supermarket the apple juice is labeled "Product of China and Africa" really? Why? Garlic also product of China. Can you imagine the pesticides they use?!

I, too, have a thing about products made in China.
I think the crowning blow was when I received a T shirt from the American Disabled Vets. with the slogan "Freedom is Not Free". Made in China. That really got to me. A Communistic country that tightly regulates what its citizens can say and do.!
I can still buy my American flags from the daughter of a WWII vet that are made in the United States. Top quality and I willingly pay more for them.
China couldn't defeat us in the Korean War. Now they're doing it economically thanks to Washington and greedy American companies.

In my opinion: Face it we are being sold out, little by little. I think that Senator Joe McCarthy was right, he was just a head of his time. Down the road China will be running the show. Right now they have an economic clutch on our barries, and they could pull the plug on us at any time. Look at everything and it says made in China with a big proud label. The truth is it is to late, it is just a matter time.
Interesting thought, what symbol is often used by China ??? The Dragon !!!

I was recently at the Veterans Hospital for my routine physical and went to the store to get an american flag hat and vest. I picked out my size and then looked. Made in china. I put them back, and the clerk asked why I did not purchase them. Because they are made in china. I am an American Veteran. Also notice that some words are not capitolized,

America
We used to have the can do spirit.
Now it's just what can you do for me.
We want top dollar for low output per hour.
Perks out the ass or tell them we will sit on our ass.
Sue employers with glee, not shine your tools and get to work.
It ain't no wonder, we are getting our collective arses kicked by a nation and nations that will work for a buck.
Life ain't easy but what the heck are we thinking when we think the world owed us a living.
They don't and we are about to find that out the hard way.
What hard times are.

Stop complaining and pass the President's Job's Bill. If it doesn't work at least the road to predition will be well paved and the bridges will be safe.

Maybe we should make a list of USA made items to fit a Honda Valkyrie. That would be pro-active instead of bitchin'. Here's a start:
Mobil 1 Motorcraft FL-810 oil filter Champion Spark Plugs Prestone 50-50 coolant Dunlop E3 tires LeatherLyke Saddlebags Corbin Seat
What else do you know???
How 'bout Amsoil products?
Pluggy.

That's a two way street dood. Companies want you to break your back for as little compensation as possible and that isn't right either. But some people have been brainwashed into believing they're not worth enough money to stay above the poverty line. We didn't get to this level of mistrust because one side owns all the blame. Are American workers lazy and demanding? I think some are. But not most of the ones I work with. I trust the American worker more than I trust the people they work for.

There used to be a United States Steel plant in Pittsburgh called American Bridge. I toured it once in high school and actually worked there briefly as a contractor. I left the 'burgh in '83, but I think that plant closed long ago. They made the steel for the Golden Gate, Mackinaw, and probably most of the US and World's bridges prior to 1970. My point is, where would you make the steel for this bridge now? There are very few mills left in the states. The tree huggers deserve a good portion of the blame for this, I'm not against clean air and water, but you have to be reasonable.

Unreasonable actions (polluting as one sees fit) results in unreasonable reactions (industry killing legislation). Now, I didn't vote for Al Gore in 2000 largely because I expected him to attempt to kill industry with excessive regulation, so I'm with you in spirit. But let's not forget the other party's irresponsible actions either. There's a reason why so many feel empowered to persecute industry.

i don't believe it's only govenments fault. MANY Americans DON'T want to work!! if it doesn't pay top dollar, they don't want to do it. or, if it's not the perfect hours, etc, etc..... here's an article in our local news concerning a "sand mine", just amazes me that people wouldn't want the jobs in their back yard mantality. http://www.leadertelegram.com/news/front_page/article_11f95206-ddc8-11e0-91c7-001cc4c03286.html

I never meant, nor did I say that the Big Corps weren't guilty, and therefore got what they deserved, since they didn't respect the environment. That said - everything that pollutes comes from the environment, man just modifies it. Only meteors fall from outer space and are foreign to this planet. If you've ever seen pictures of Pittsburgh in the 20's-60's you would never believe they could clean the place up, but it looks pretty good now. I'm not saying we should trash the planet, we just need to be responsible, not ridiculous like CARB. The Texas wild fires have dumped more crap in the atmosphere than all the vehicles in CA have in the last decade. I don't have the figures to back that up, so FLAME ON!

My company just opened a plant over there, medical devices. So as time goes on, I find out different things that are interesting to me China will only let companies sell their products if they are manufactured there. Today, I was reading a few memos that stated it is against the law in China to manufacture implants with any material manufactured in China....They know they have problems with materials over there, I wonder if all the materials for that bridges were also made in China...
