Any day that you ride is a good day!

I went to move my 83 Goldwing yesterday and discovered that when I pushed down on the rear brake pedal that it remained in the down position.

The brakes work, and I can force the pedal back up and the brakes will release.

I cant find anything visibly wrong.

I am thinking that the rear mastercylinder should be rebuilt. But, I don't want to just start parts replacing.

I figure that someone here has had a similar experience or knows what the problem is.

Thanks in advance!!

Hi,  I rode an 83 Interstate for 19 years before trading it for my Valkyrie.  It did what you are describing one time and it was due to corrosion in the rear caliper.  The piston was stuck and I had a hard time getting it out.   I took the caliper off and blew the piston out with an air hose, cleaned it up and put in a new O ring.  It worked fine and never caused problems again.

Also 83's are know for rear brake line failure due to blockage or restiction that can cause dragging..Check your caliper if pucks are free and all is well, try blowing air hrough the line as a test.. My brother sells a boat load of 83 SS brake line kits.. OEM rear brake line is no longer available.. Master cylinder has a tiny pin hole relief valve that also could be bocked that could cause same symptoms.. "Been there done that"

Thanks Pete
