In the Houston area we have many grass fires and burnt spots along our freeways that get started from people flicking a lighted cigarette out the window.   You will now be fined $200 if a police officer sees ya do it.......about time.

if you are a smoker you will never have noticed what i am about to say,,
take a look any any intersection that has grass to your left,,,then take notice of all the cigarette butts on the ground,,,people even empty their ash trays out on the road when they stop for a red light,, that should be grounds for at least a thousand dollar fine,,,,cigarette filters do do deteriorate over time,,,

I hafta admit, I get a lot madder when I see someone flicking a cigarette butt out the window now than I did when I was a smoker...

I don't smoke and have nothing against any one who does.  But in The Texas area drought we have been batteling major fires with many people losing their homes in the last few months.  Any one who flicks a lighted cigarette out their window right now in Texas has no compassion for mankind.....and needs to be fined at least $200.  If they try to give an excuse to the officer of any kind....they need to be fined $300.

I have a scar on my lower back from this...somebody flicked and it went down my jacket and I couldn't get it out while riding. Barely got stopped, dropped the bike, nearly got run over by a car etc.

That, my friends, is an entirely new definition of pain.

They ended up cutting a "divot" of skin and fat and burned t-shirt out of my back and pulling the skin together and sewing it up to look like a deep cut.

Not to mention the fact that it's just disgusting. As Jess said, these foam filters hang around for what seems like ever. If you want to kill yourself then fine, they're your lungs. But keep your trash in your car. Pigs.

If the cops would just enforce the laws already on the books...  The fine for littering cigarette butts should have been a deterrent, to begin with.

I, inadvertently,  started a grass fire with a bush hog, one summer.  It doesn't even take throwing a burning ember out the window to get these wildfires going.
