Margate, Florida

« on: September 18, 2011, 10:37:38 PM »

I just came across this (these). My first thought was "training wheels..!!!  OMG>  2funny Then I listened to the video. Certain older, disabled, short legged or some others might find this useful.  I have no personal need or interest but thought it might strike up a conversation.  (maybe wrong forum?) sry if it is.

We used to call them landing wheels.

Touch a button to make them come down and 23 mph or 33 mph I think it was for them to automatically retract.     Were great in stop and go traffic or parades.

I don't need them at the moment but it might be an option one day. Personally, if I get to that point, I think I'd rather have a Voyager training wheel kit. It is a cradle with two outside wheels in a fixed position. The drive wheel still touches the ground and drives. It can be easily added to nearly any bike and taken off again when selling the bike. It is less permanent than a full blown trike conversion and less fuss than up-down landing gear. It also has less chance that I'll forget to put my gear or feet down.

My dad is 86 and has added a voyager like kit to his Honda 250 Rebel.  It is a great alternative for him to keep riding.
