I was going to the steam show/camp out/flea market and had a package to mail to Canada. I had 3 choices of post office, but each was out of my way. Then I remembered their was one in the no-stop light town 4 miles from my house I was driving by. I ran in and mailed it, hey they got a bank in the building so I got some ones for the flea market, had to have a drink so I got a couple diet dew's. Now, I smelled the homemade potatoe soup cooking, I don't care for that, but had to have a fresh deli sandwich. I told her how pleased I was to get all my business done, she said "It doesn't get any better than that". I said yes it does and pulled out my winning $5.00 lottery ticket and cashed it ! I didn't want to wait for a pizza in the pizza shop, all in the little 150+ yr old general store

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

Man, it stinks to hijack, but needs to be said...

The Postal Service has decided, in it's infinite wisdom, that these small town Post Offices, don't "earn their keep" even though, often, they are the ONLY touch to the outside world, some of the elders in these small towns have. The Postal Service is NOT in existence to "make money" - they are basically self-sustained, and non-profit. Even though the larger, city Post Offices DO make enough to compensate for the small rural offices, they are determined to shut them down, solely based on that INDIVIDUAL Post Offices' sales.

Here's an article, with a link to 3700 proposed closings: U.S. Postal Service May Close 3,700 Post Offices -- Is Yours on the List?

If you see any get-togethers, designed to stop the closing of these small offices, I urge you to go, learn, and take an active role.

One thing to remember - they now have "Village Post Offices", that are run in businesses, notorious for low paying jobs. Do YOU want your important mail's "sanctity" left to the same person, who flipped your burger, LAST week? But was fired for stealing fries from Mickey-D's? The potential is there...

That being said, when I'm out riding, I try to stop at every little town Post Office I see. Some are VERY interesting, in peoples houses, in Hardware stores, and are a great piece of Americana.

I only regret not taking pictures of them all! I do keep my camera in the bike bags, at all times, now.

Thanks for sharing...

That was the first thing I thought of when I went in there. Then there's that bank, I have no idea how it can justify it's existence. The whole store and deli and pizza would seem to need much more volume than lives nearby.
