Still a bit on the warm side here in Arizona but needed to get out of town. Connie (Queenbee) and I decided to take my new 2011 Dodge 4X4 out and get her broke in. There was a road I had not been on before, Fossile Creek Road. Goggle this if you have time lots of history behind this road including Child's Power Plant, google that too. Anyway Fossile Creek starts at Fossile springs. This is a huge hole in the ground where the water comes gushing out of. I'm sure it is a site but it is a 8 mile round trip hike and very strenious, I was not up for that with my bad hip so you'll have to trust me on that. Here are some pics of the trip.

As you can see the road hugs the side of the mountain for many miles and no guardrails, it's a long drop down too!

The water is crystal clear and about 72 degrees all the time.

These are some shots just down from the dirt parking area to where you hike to the falls.

The pool there is about 8 feet deep.

This lady walked right into my pic, oh well. We are now on the hike to the falls.

Had a couple of foot bridges to cross on the trail.

Finally made it to the fall. There were some other people there and doing some rock jumping. While here we seen three guys come ovr this fall in kayaks, sorry didn't get a pic but it was cool to see.

He's getting ready to jump!

YEEEEEHAAAAAW!!!!!

just kicking back for a spell.

Dang cacti is growing right out of the rock!

Well we had a great time hope you all enjoyed the pics of our adventure. See, Arizona is not all dry desert. LOL!

You pick up Fossile Creek Road in Strawberry Az. It is probably a 80 or so miles from Phoenix to the turn off for this road. Beware it is very rough but you do not need 4 wheel drive. A two wheel drive truck will make it no problem. A car would make but very slow going. Check before you go they are closing down the road or parts of it in October so they can dismantel more of the Child's power plant and the flum that use to carry the water to the plant.

Yea they do swim but only if they have to. Being born and raised in Arizona I am on the watch for many things.

Like I said be sure to check if the road is open or not.

The water from that spring feeds the power plant at Childs, AZ. The power went up to Mayer, AZ back in the day. At Childs, there's the verde Hot Springs which is on the side of the Verde River. Much skinny dipping went on there back in another day. I'm sorry to hear the flume is being dismantled. One of my pleasures is finding pieces of AZ history in the backroads. Too bad.

Hey Clark, I'm a dirt bike racer/rider from way back, I could have done this road on the Valk. Google Schnebly Hill Road, I rode the Valk all the way on this road.
