temperature light and radiator fan
«
on:
September 28, 2011, 09:44:15 AM »
It seems to me that my 98 tourer is running hot, but I never hear the fan come on like it did on my other valk. Also, how can you tell if the temp. light is working properly. Mine does not come on when the ignition is on, Isn'r it suppose to like the other lights?
I dont want to take a chance on running it too hot.
Thanks

The light does not come on when ignition switch in turned on-If its running hot and the fan or warning light doesnt come on may be the temp sensor-would not want to run hot aluminum
doesnt like that.

If you can, borrow an infra-red thermometer and scan your upper radiator hose to get a relatively true temperature reading. The fan should come on at about 210-215°F. I forget at what temperature the light should illuminate.

You can with the key on pull the wire off the sensor at the bottom left side of the rad and ground it the fan should come on. If bike has sat for a long time dirt daubers can build a nest in there a keep the fan from working. It doesn't take much to stop it.

The light is supposed to come on for a second when you hit the key on the I/S, but not the tourer. There are methods for testing the switches in the manual.
