I saw it when it first hit theaters (I'm not one to miss a Coen brothers movie) and remember being underwhelmed and a little disappointed. Could have been the mood I was in or maybe I was dog tired at the time of my first viewing but I happened to catch it again last night on AMC. I enjoyed it much more the second time around. I picked up on a lot of little nuances that I'd either missed or forgotten about. In fact, I liked it so much that I watched it for a third time in it's entirety immediately after my second viewing.

Amazing cast too. Tommy Lee Jones has yet to be bad in anything and Javier Bardem may have turned in the single finest portrayal of menacing evil I've ever seen.

Good flick. That main badass character was scary just watching him, you never knew what he was going to do next. Forget what his name was in the movie...may not have been stated, don't recall. When he asked the motel clerk 2-3 times about who checked in and she kept blowing him off, I fully expected him to unload on her. And it was always with no expression on his face, played it perfect.

No it was on AMC and they do this thing where they play the movie twice in succession. I missed the first ten minutes of the first playing and hung around to watch the first ten of the second showing but wound up watching the whole thing again.

In the end who got  the money?

I never really knew.

Liked the Cow Killer Device.

Agua, agua, agua.

That's Spanish for water and the whole reason our hero got into trouble on this one.

I kinda missed that the first time too. Watch it again and I think it'll be more clear.

Yeah and there's a cool scene where Bell (the sheriff, TLJ) describes one to Moss's wife, but I don't recall where he actually figures out that Chigur is using one.

Yup. And how about the scene where he's chased by that throat-seeking missile? Tense.

Hey Anvil, I've scanned and can't find it on AMC. Can you check your listings and see if and when it comes on again? Sounds like a good movie. Wink

I'd seriously suggest renting it instead. The problem with AMC is twofold; fist of all, it's edited for content. Secondly AMC has a LOT of commercials.

I've read Cormack McCarthy's Blood Meridian and The Road (which was also recently adapted into an excellent film) but I haven't read this one yet. I've gotta plow through A Song of Ice and Fire first.

It is.  Bought it a couple of years ago based on reviews and was really impressed.

The Town is on my list of movies to see. Having grown up very near there and having known a few bank robbers myself I'm curious to see how they portrayed it.

Great movie. I've seen it three or four times and read the book once.  If you want to be able to understand everthing that is said, especially by Tommy Lee Jones and his deputy, watch the movie with subtitles.  Or read the book.  Some GREAT lines in that movie.  At the massacre site:  Deputy:  "Whoo wee, looks like quite the mess don't it sheriff?"  Sheriff: " If it aint, it'll do till the mess gets here"  My favorite line in the movie.  I always turn it up to hear that one.

Subtitles are a godsend, especially since films are now mastered for 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound and the plain old stereo mix tends to muffle dialogue while making everything else so loud it wakes the whole cursed neighborhood.

You're right though, brilliant dialogue.

Chigurh: "Don't put it in your pocket, sir. Don't put it in your pocket. It's your lucky quarter."
Clerk: "Where do you want me to put it?"
Chigurh: "Anywhere not in your pocket. Where it'll get mixed in with the others and become just a coin. Which it is."

The Town is another good movie. The only problem is you better get used to the F word alot. And I do mean ALOT. Sometimes like every other word. To me, No Country for Old Men is far better.

That part of it doesn't bother me but like I said; I grew up there. It's just reality.

Understood. I'm a truck driver so I'm not totaly unfamilier with the word. I just didn't expect it every other word is all. We had to turn the volume down cuz we had kids upstairs. Thats all I was saying.

Nuances you noticed?

When the sheriff/deputy ride up on the shootout scene. The guys in suits. That must be management.

Money: The killer gets the money. He is in the motel room when the sheriff  comes back for a last look. Killer had retrieved it from the ventilation duct. You are waiting for him to kill the sheriff, but does not.

Wife: He had promised to kill the wife. You dont see it, but when he comes out of the house he cleans his feet off.

Cohen's know you want him to die in the end. They jerk you around by giving you what you want then take it away.

Accountant: Are you ging to kill me?  I dont know, have you seen me?

I'm not criticizing. I have two young'uns in the house too.

The gun the killer was using in that scene was a gas-op semi-auto shotgun cut down with a homemade silencer.
