was at the toyrun yesterday and got questioned by a hd rider.."when ya gonna get a harley".. my response was when they get away from hundred year old technology and make a bike that runs.. he responded " my hundred year old technology is faster than yer rice burner" reffering to my 1000 strom.. he was on a pretty sweet lookin sportster with an admitted $2500.00 in extras in his motor not to mention 200 more cc's.. so off we went.. I dont have a third opinion but according to my mirrors which seem fairly realistic I would say 15-16 bike lengths..also not to mention i weigh prolly 1oo lbs. more than the harley whippersnapper dude..I JUST LOVE WAXIN LOUD MOUTH HARLEY PUNKS.. specially since he is the brother of one of the dudes that just last week patched into the aforementioned club/gang..

The VStrom 1000 is a sleeper, it doesn't look fast , jes a plain ole adventure touring bike.
The Vstrom 1000, per the rider mags, did the quarter mile in the high elevens.
I've never checked mine, but it goes very well.

I have a friend that has over 7000 into his motor. Still can't outrun me. He has more in his motor than I paid for my bike. I have a 99 Interstate and that burns him, that a bagger can run like that. Only changes are some chrome and a 4 degree trigger wheel. He won't ride with me much

The way I like to shut them up is take off together, I use just enuf throttle to stay along side with out going into 5th gear.
When they are topped out, roll up beside them pop it into 5th and takeoff.
90% of them, stop, turn around and disappear to never be seen again, especially if a bunch are watching.

I usually tell them lets get on the x-way in top gear at 80 MPH and then open the throttle all the way. They disapper rather quickly.

It amazes me that hd riders think that just because theirs is expensive, that it makes it faster than the rest. Whats funny though is tha my 12yr old "Jap Crap" that only cost 5 grand can still serve a whuppin with authority.
