GOT CURVES??

VRCCDS0184

« on: October 02, 2011, 04:41:54 PM »

Well I left the house early this am to go to the Rat Run up in Portage Des Sioux. I was planning on meeting Chip and a few other friends there.

About 4 miles from the house I was thinking this will be a beautiful day. I just crossed the Meramec River bridge, and was heading north on Hwy 19. A slight early morning sun glare. Running along about 65 and it all went south in a hurry. I must of hit something in the road, I could never find it. The bike may of thrown it in the grass on the side of the road.

A nice violent tank slapper followed by a heavy feeling, and I knew I had a tire go. I finally got her shut down. Big rip in the tire. Called the Wife and a friend and got a trailer. Back home and all in one piece.

Our fall ride is next weekend, so I spent the rest of the day tracking down a new Triple Tread. Not that easy on Sunday. I had to run to St Louis to get it. The guy at the tire store was happy to mount it for me. I just told him it was for a trike, and he said no problem.  cooldude

Shocked  Wow.... looks like a Michelin but what specific model tire was it?   That looks like a sidewall puncture/slice/blow out and I am curious to know what the sidewall ply is?  Were you in a turn when it happened or do you think something was sticking up that high?   That cut looks even longer than what the picture shows.

 Shocked

It was a Michelin Primacy. It has been on the bike for around 10000 miles. I defiantly hit something sharp. I do not know what the sidewall ply was.
Thank God i was going straight. When I hit whatever it was I heard a metallic clank followed by a boom and the rear of the bike jumped, and a wild ride ensued.

That is a nasty tire outage. I'm glad that you are okay.
Ride safe.
