Waiting in a left turn lane, lane sensor was so weak it couldn't pick up my 700-plus pound Fat Lady.  Simply running the light not an option, too much traffic, rush hour.  I had heard that stopping and re-starting the engine can generate enough magnetic field to trigger the lane sensor, so I shifted into Neutral, hit the cutoff switch, then clicked it back on.  D-E-A-D.  No lights.  No green neutral indicator.  No starter.  NADA.  Turned the key on and off.  Rocked the cutoff switch back and forth.  Nothing worked.  It was as if my battery was suddenly removed.  I was stuck.  And of course, being in front of the line of cars waiting to turn left, suddenly I was stuck and needing to MOVE.  Managed to push the bike across the road to a fortunately close garage and started looking.  Fuses, good.  Borrowed a continuity light, battery good.  Looked around for broken/loose wiring, nothing obvious.  Thought maybe the battery was weak?? Was really stumped.  Removed both battery terminals, then decided to re-connect them and use the continuity light to trace out the fuses and see where I lost connection.  Turned the key..... and I had power again.  Kicked right over and started.

Do I have some component going bad, or was it really a battery connection that needed "reseating"?  Didn't look corroded or loose.  Bike stopped and re-started many more times this evening with no hint of trouble.   It has NEVER acted even CLOSE to this way before.  Anyone have an idea?

I agree with Brad.  Mine did that leaving work one evening.  Disconnected/reconnected battery, and fires up every time since.  That was 4 months ago.

You might also look at the ground cable where it mounts to the motor.  Aluminum does not conduct juice real good.  I moved mine to a bolt on the frame......  That was about 60,000 miles ago.......

It showed a small amount of crud on the end of the cable when I took it off....  Cleaned it up and no more problems.....

Same thing happened to me, and it turned out to be a 'cooked' starter relay.

Chet, of Rattlebars fame, along with RatDog have a great article on what to look for and how to fix it...

Once at the page, scroll almost all the way down the page to the 'Valkyrie starter "relay" problem'...

Good luck!

Melted fuse in the top of the starter relay just caused virtually the same problem on my valk. I'm waiting on parts now.

Ok, this just happened AGAIN.  Turned the key, hit the starter button, heard a slight "click" then all went dead.  I remembered this event from months back, disconnected and re-connected the battery, and voila, all is well.  So, what could be the cause of this?  I mean, EVERYTHING went dead, no lights, nothing, then disconnect/reconnect the battery and everything's fine?  Is there a relay going south somewhere?  When I loosened the battery terminal screws I noticed they were down good and snug.

It is the referenced above, and is 30A.  It is next to the row of fuses that you have been checking, and under a rubber cover which is part of the starter relay "group" for lack of the correct term.
Had a friend as he was passing a car, everything died and he had to coast back behind the car and to the side of the road.  His fuse holder was burned, we managed to clean it up and get him going again.  I think RJ has posted a replacement that works that was made for a Gold Wing.
