I felt like I was going to snap my choke lever on my 03 Standard. It took a lot of force. I read on here to lube everything. I removed the two chrome covers and lubed the linkage, then lubed the handlebar area. Now my lever is very easy to push down. Now the problem is it springs right back up. I tried adjusting the cable. It didn't matter where I set it. It just sprang back. Any tech tips? Thanks, Arty

1st word of advice, the hard push was normal.

So let it wear itself back to normal.

Just LEAVE it and other things alone.

Ride the Phat lady and quit messing with stuff.

As Forrest Gump (<<Modified here) would say, That is all I have to say on that subject.
Gomer Pyle was my Marine Corps Buddy.

just think of it as an automatic choke release....mine does the same thing.

Since you shouldn't need to have the enricheners on for very long after startup, just hold a thumb on the lever for the 20 seconds, then release.

Better this than snapping cables or levers....I lubed mine over 3 years ago and it still does this.  Hasn't been a problem for me.

Other than jrhorton, we're not being terribly helpful on this.  Hindsight doesn't help fix the problem.
If jrhorton's suggestion doesn't work for you, then I would suggest trying to clean up some of that lube if you can, to get it back to it's rougher state.  Clean anything you can get to.  If you sent lube down the cable sheathing, try sending some compressed air down there to try to blow some of it out.
I haven't ever had this issue, so I'm just speculating at this point, but they are at least some ideas to try.

It is possible to adjust a new cable so there is no hard spot to push, but it is a PIA.  Got mine just right after a  hour cussin and sweating. The secret is adjusting the tightness on the choke slider screws.  Smooth all the way down, quarter inch up to warm up, full open in 15 seconds to a minute, depending on the temp.  Hoser   Grin

I don't think you will be able to make the system work any easier Hoser because you are actually pulling on six separate springs (one for each valve) and that is the resistance you feel when you're trying to activate the choke.

I wasn't speaking of doing it in the future, Rickey, I did it 6 months ago when I put on a pair of new cables, and it works as I described,  I doubt it can be adjusted with old sticky cables, but new ones which are very free in the housing they come with, can be adjusted so there is no hard zone at the end of applying the choke. The springs are just tiny little things that don't a much tension at all, just enough to hold the choke closed. I am convinced that most of the resistance is in the cables as they wear.  Like I said it is a pita, but worth the time and trouble.  I replaced the cables because the top one broke from being stretched many times over the ten years I have owned my bike.  Cool Hoser

MY choke cable is the original with 243K and it WERE very "tight" the last half of the stroke when NEW.   I lube the lever etc. (several years ago), then the other end (where the carb's are) and all sliding parts.  There is now only a slight resistance from the half way mark to full choke.  So, it would seem to me, that it simply wasn't properly lubed at the factory.
