I was fortunate to serve almost 2 tours on a WWII era aircraft carrier C V S 10 U S S Yorktown(A K A The Fighting Lady). C V S 10 is the replacement of U S S Yorktown C V 5 lost in the battle of leyte gulf. C V S 10 U S S Yorktown is now a museum tied up in Charleston S C which also houses the medal of honor wall. They have scale models of all the carriers that seved in WWII including the U S S Franklin which suffered some horrible damage. They have a lot of Naval aircraft in/as static displays on the flight deck and the hangar bays. I had to visit the ship as a civilian to see the engine room and the bridge.
Anyone thats been in the Navy understands this. I was an Airedale-working 36-50 hour days did not leave much time for exploring. My hat is off to those that went before. My two tours lost aircraft and people. An aircraft carrier flight deck is called the most dangerous real estate in the world. Having worked the flight deck-i can't argue with the truth of that statement. To all my brothers and sisters from naval aviation that made the ultimate sacrifice-fair wind and following seas.
