Any day that you ride is a good day!

Moneta, VA

« on: October 05, 2011, 08:07:25 PM »

Thinking about putting together a fall color ride on Sat Oct 22nd.

My tentative plan is to meet up in Front Royal, Va that morning and ride the Skyline Drive.

The route can be flexible, but unfortunately the date cannot.

If this sounds like a good idea to you let me know.

Mark,

Already sent you a PM, we are in, and Front Royal is a good starting point, we ride teh Skyline all the time from there, it starts right outside of Front Royal.
give me a call when you can, we will work out the rest.

For anyone interested in riding on Oct 22nd,

We're staying at the Cool Harbor Motel in Front Royal (540-635-2191) for the night of Oct 21 st.

It will probably be 9:00 PM before we get there, both of us have to work that Friday.

I inquired about their cancellation policy and let them know that bad weather would be an issue for us.

I was told that I could cancel as late as first thing that Fri morning without penalty.

At this time they do have additonal rooms if anyone is interested.

The single rate is $69 + tax, doubles are $75 + tax.

I'm thinking about a 9:00 AM breakfast meet and I'm OK with a "kickstands up" time as late as 10:00 AM (allowing for the sun to warm things up a bit).

I figure we can work out some sort of group consenscus and have the times set by the middle of that week at the latest.

If the weather on the Skyline Drive is bad or if traffic is a real problem, I'm OK with an alternate route, most likely something that takes us west near the VA / WV border.

So come on VA riders and all of you nearby folks pray for good weather that weekend, Then "BRING IT and LET's RIDE".

The weather man is predicting a nice day for this SAT 10/22. I'm thinking "Kickstands UP" @ 0930 at a location (restaurant) still to be determined, I'm fully open to suggestions if anyone knows of a good MOM and POP for breakfast in Front Royal, VA.

The weather will be a little "Cool" but NICE so come on and LET's RIDE !

"Ginger" and I will be staying @ the Cool Harbor Motel on Friday night.

Mike, the weatherman says Front Royal VA a low of 42 Fri nite, and high of 60 Sat, partly sunny-cloudy.

It will be cooler up on Skyline.  I'm still in.... I'll be dressed like the Michelin man.

I have no advice on an eatery.... perhaps it should be next door to your motel?

Let me know.

Mark,

Sorry I was not on last night, so I just saw the post this AM. With regards to Breakfast there is not much in Front Royal that I can say with 100% certanty that they serve Breakfast, asides form the usual McD's. But I know of three places, that are not far from the Hotel your staying at. (Which by the way looks nice, drove past it on Sunday comming back from Skyline Drive). You have L'Dees Pancake house on Main St., The South Street Grille on South St., and The Knotty Pine Resaturant on North Ave. juist down from the Motel your at.

The weather report is good for SAT. A little chilly but good. Since it is going to be cool SAT morning and there is no reason to be in a hurry for this ride, let's plan for a "Kickstands up" time of 10:00 AM.  The easiest meeting place will be the 7-11 store that is located just outside of the Front Royal entrance to the Skyline Drive. (711 South Royal Avenue Front Royal, VA 22630)

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=711+South+Royal+Avenue,+Front+Royal,+VA+22630&hl=en&ll=38.909001,-78.197207&spn=0.018667,0.0421&gl=us&hnear=711+S+Royal+Ave,+Front+Royal,+Warren,+Virginia+22630&t=m&z=15&vpsrc=6&lci=com.panoramio.all

I found a local "Mom and Pop" for breakfast it is Wynn's Restaurant located at 219 East Main Street in Front Royal, VA

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=219+East+Main+Street,+Front+Royal,+VA+22630&hl=en&sll=38.909001,-78.197207&sspn=0.018667,0.0421&vpsrc=6&gl=us&hnear=219+E+Main+St,+Front+Royal,+Virginia+22630&t=m&z=16&lci=com.panoramio.all

If you want to meet for breakfast before the ride we will be there at 9:00 AM
If you can't make it in time for breakfast, meet us at the 7-11.

If you don't have a National Park pass they will charge you a $10 entrance fee to the park (it is good for 7 days) a one year pass is $30 bucks and comes with some additional perks.

If anyone wants to join the ride and has questions or needs more info, MY cell is: five four zero - three five three - 6375

It's going to be a pretty day, so dress warm and in the infamous words of our friend "Smokin Joe" in Tennessee   "Bring it, Let's Ride"

Just down from Wynn's is a mom and pop pancake house. Best breakfast in town.

The morning was a little cool and cloudy, but a pretty "Motley" crew showed up to ride anyway.

The FAT LADIES were all ready to ride.

Even with the clouds the views were still pretty good.

At one of our stops Jess decided to "Check Out" one of the many trails................

I'm not sure but I think that he might be telling us about the big bear that he saw...........

The sun did come out and made for some really nice views..........

After a late lunch everyone headed out to beat the setting sun home.

It was a good day for some good riding and hanging out with some good folks.
