From Detroit News:

Police believe nails on U.P. road intentionally placed
Associated Press
Melstrand, Mich.— More than 60 cars, trucks and motorcycles have received flat tires after driving over thousands of building nails along an Alger County road in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

Authorities originally believed the nails were accidentally scattered along H-58 near Melstrand, but now investigators say the act appears to be intentional, WLUC-TV reported Saturday.

The building nails began to turn up about a month ago in the community, about 47 miles east of Marquette.

"Earlier this week, we started receiving additional reports, people experiencing flat tires," state police Lt. Robert Pernaski said. "It was too coincidental to be viewed as an accidental dropping of nails."

One motorist found seven nails in one of his motorcycle tires, said David Zambon, parts manager at a Harley Davidson shop in Marquette. The shop has replaced tires on more than 20 bikes because of nails.

"Most people don't realize how dangerous it is to have a flat on a motorcycle," said Brad Kolbus of UP Cruising. "With the corners that are here on H-58, it's a recipe for disaster."

UP Cruising is a website dedicated to motorcycling in the Upper Peninsula. It is offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to an arrest
