99 Standard Valk with a (relatively) short NC windshield already on it.  Being somewhat on the tall side (6'3") I've found that some adjustments were required from what the po had.  Already readjusted the highway pegs but even with the windshield all the way up I'm not getting enough wind protection.  I would guess I need some kind of "extra tall" windshield.  Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I like these guys:

www.clearviewshields.com

No affiliation, just a satisfied customer. I have bought a new windshield (4" taller, 2 " wider than stock) from them for  my Kawasaki Nomad and have just ordered a +4" windshield for my I/S. Excellent fit, top quality materials. They do take their time b/c each shield is manufactured to order.

I also had a PO with a National Cycle shield he had cut 2 inchs off due his short stature. Me being 6 feet tall the shield was too short so I bought a new NC shield only so I could use the same brackets.
I liked the NC shield as it was not as wide as some others and I have baker shields to reduce some wind. I still have to have the new shield all the way up to get the right height so you being 3 inchs taller you may need to look into a higher shield and being my memory isn't as good as it used to be not sure if NC sells one thats taller.

Provided that the Nat'l Cycle windshield mounts that you have are of the "Switchblade" series, the tallest one available is the "2-up" model.  They sell for about $220.

After I watched the youtube video on polycarbonite windshields, I was sold on the idea.  They are far superior to acrilic windshields.

I had a Show Chrome over sized windshield on my IS. Like it a lot, about 2" taller, and 2" wider on each side. Gave me more protection from the elements on my hands.

I found it too high for me, 5' 11", and bought a used OEM shield and found it just right for me, but missed the wider aftermarket one.

I beleive they sell for $150.

In case you've never watched this

Polycarbonate vs. Acrylic - National Cycle Windshield Demopowered by Aeva

I have a National Cycle Switchblade "Chopped" windshield and really like it.  I see just the right amount over the windshield for me.  I'm 5'11" tall.

I have been  hit once with a rather large peice of crushed concrete that fell off a truck at highway  speeds and  had no windshield damage.   It is a very durable windshield.

To avoid mixing up polycarbonate with acrylic .... polycarbonate is marketed under the trade name of Lexan® .... while acrylic is known as Plexiglass®. Some confusion may arise because acrylic is also sold under the trade name of Lucite®. Lucite and Lexan sounds similar to the ear but that's where the similarity ends at least regarding windshields. Lexan® is the polycarbonate.

Awesome video. I have an NC on my 97 standard but don't know if it is poly. Are all NC's poly?

I just bought one and it seems to be very high quality.  I bought one of their seconds that has a 1/2" hairline scratch for a significantly reduced price.  Worth checking out.

No, not all of them.  The "Heavy Duty" and the "Switchblade" series' are polycarbonate and carry a 3 yr. warranty.  The other Nat'l Cycle w/s's are acrilic.

As previously identified, you will need the mounting hardware for the other brands, Clearview, etc.

MY "Clearview" fits exactly to the Honda OEM windshield mounting hardwear.  It's now 2 years old and still in good condition.  After watching that video, all I can say is "I sure hope no one shoots at me"!

I checked the fine print on my windshield, definitely polycarbonate. For once I purchased something of good quality without knowing it.

I have a Cee Bailey +2, made from aircraft rated Polycarbonate (which means it a little thicker)  The +2 is 2 inches over stock.  I'm 6'2" and I find it just a tad too tall.

I have the Switchblade which snaps on or off in seconds, no tools needed. I have two windshields for it, a short one and a tall one. Usually leave the taller one on. Love it. Whatever you choose the best cleaning solution you can use is Pledge furniture polish. Makes bug removal a snap and no streaking or fogging.   http://www.nationalcycle.com/catalogue/SwitchBlade.shtml

@ 40 degrees and under you might. I just refitted mine last week and boy is it nice to have that cold wind sent packing.

I have a Rifle windshield, a really big one too. I wasn't that wild about it until I rode Eddie's bike with the OEM tourer shield. The Rifle is much more substantial and I appreciate it more now.
