Dang, cheaper by $1.71 Seriously though, have now been riding on 701 & 702 for about 900 miles front and 1500 miles rear. Still happy with them. Not the quietest tires around ( I think there might be some cupping developing already ) but so far good grip and response, even on wet.

The tread noise we hear is not cupping. The front tire has an agressive tread with large channels to flow out water. When you lean the bike, the tire rolls over about 60 little empty spots. The tire "sings" like an old snow tire. It's not particularly loud.
Happy riding
Thanks for that Pluggy I was thinking it could be the treading since it is a bit agricultural. I just thought I was hearing it a bit more now than immediately after I put them on, but that of course could be that I am cornering a bit more aggressively now that both tires have been ran in. If it displaces the water from underneath my tires, I think I can live with it

Seems to me this is a difference that an explanation (personal riding characteristics) doesn't answer. I had one (Metzler) on the front a few years back that disappointed me. Out of round and poor mileage also, although not as bad as dipstick. ***

Well, I got nearly 20k miles from a Metzler ME880 with my GYTT on the back and it wasn't new when I went darkside. A month before our trip to Maggie Valley I put on another Metzler just like the other one. After 5 days in N.C. and on the way back home, in Rome GA, I had a hologram of tread left in the middle of the front tire and cord every two inches or so on both sides showing on the front tire. It could have been a bad tire. It could have been low air pressure. Or maybe I was just a little too aggressive on the Tail of the Dragon and the Snake. Wow! Imagine my suprise after a spirited 115 mph Show Off, my brother in-law said, "Boy your tire is gone". My knees literally buckled and I couldn't stand up straight. I have never had a front tire blow out and I don't want one. My brother in-law thinks that coming off of the flat of the car tire in the switch backs made me push the front tire real hard. Or more hard than a round tire in the back. Hmmmm.... Blotar

There are many factors that work together to determine the miles your tires will do. One of the biggest is the tires themselves, but for the sake of this I will assume were talking all the same tire. Other factors:
Maintenance of air pressure road surface gross vehicle weight riding style ambient temperatures servicability of the motorcycle types of roads (super slab vs country roads) age of the tire
Its almost impossble to compare the mileage one person gets on a tire to what another may get on the same tire without knowing all the above
In Northwest Fl its not uncommon to get between 20-30K on a front tire...Im usually near 20 because I stop when it gets close to the wear bar. If you drive till you see air like Ive seen some do you can get a good tire way high in the 20'sK range. In the mountains where the roads are twisty, rough, where the temps are harsher and riding is more intense I hear the average is way less.
If you have poor suspension, dont monitor your air pressure, take LONG breaks between riding so the tire is old, maybe dry rotted........your miles will be reduced.
Or if you pull a trailer, sidecar....etc
Its a complicated equation

My last one got a little over 21k and I put this one on in 09 prior to Sturgis. Its got 15k or more on it now. May last next summer yet. I'm a highway rider and it only gets round out in the Hills.

I guess riding VERY aggressive in the NC foothills and mountains just eats em up fast. I can see how a guy in IN could get 20k out of a front but I have never got more than 12k out of a front tire. But like I said I ride 90% back raods and ride the twisties pretty hard and often.

Call J&P Cycles. They usually have some good deals. Thay update their prices quite a bit, but not the print prices in the catalogs. My rear E3 was printed at $209 last spring, and I got it for $170 shipped.

You didn't list this factor, but you hinted at it. Different people consider a tire "shot" at differing levels of wear. I've seen people talk about how shot their tire is when they haven't come anywhere near the wear bar. On the other hand, I've seen people riding showing white flashes (cords) as their tire spins. That could be significant if you get two people on opposite sides of that spectrum. (side note: I've found this feeds into the fuel mileage equation, as well. If someone does it right, calculating miles per gallon over a long time, they're good, but if they're talking miles per tank, all bets are off. Some folks will say they're empty if they're on reserve, but some folks will say they're empty if they're pushing. Some folks fill it up higher, etc.)

And (I have to say it) size matters. A 150/80-17 will show less odometer miles than a 130/90-17 at the same actual distance, because with a smaller diameter it turns more often over say, 100 miles. Fred.
