Nice ride today, about 185 mi.  Went down southeast to the Salton Sea. 226' below sea level.  Formed in early 1900's with overflow from CO river.  The Salton Sea has been termed a "crown jewel of avian biodiversity" . Over 400 species have been documented at the Salton Sea. The Salton Sea supports 30% of the remaining population of the American white pelican. It is also a major resting stop on the Pacific Flyway.

From there over to Anza Borrego State Park. Anza-Borrego is the largest state park in California and, after New York's Adirondack Park, the second largest in the continental United States.   Oss, I see a lot of posts from NY, have you been to Adirondack?

Beautiful wildflowers in spring, all desert now.  Then over mountains and back home. From below sea level up to about 5000' with lots of twisting, desert mtn roads.  What a lot of fun!  cooldude

Nice ride!  cooldude  Wide open vistas like that are rare where I'm from, what with the dense tree cover. I gotta get out there to see some desert soon.

Hey Popsix my grandmother lived in Asheville so I have spent a bit of time there.  Very beautiful! Love the Smoky Mtns.  Biltmore is pretty amazing!

sweet ride and report  Glad you had some good times

Yes  Americade is held at Lake George which is in the Adirondack Park

It is truly immense as you can do the loop around to Long Lake  Tupper Lake Saranac Lake and Lake Placid and only touch on a part of the park

Lots of ski areas and nice scenery

The downhill stretch on 73 from Placid to 87 is a really good time as you follow the cliffs along the river, unless you get stuck behind some vtwinky

Even 87 is scenic once you are north of the Lake George area, along the lines of 26 between Ashville and Johnson City or 77 near Highbinder and LD's place  Not a bad view to be had

Thanks for the ride report.  Now that it is cooling off out here such rides become quite enjoyable.  I’ll have to add that one to my future ride list.

Yes, right through Warner Springs on the way home.  Probably went right by your sister's house.  Smiley

Small world indeed, Don. I grew up here, moved away and came back. My travels have taken me to many of the states east of the Mississippi, but I've yet to cross it. I'm hoping the Valk will help me to tour the West some, I just need to make the time for it. Enjoyed your report. Give us more!  cooldude

Wow, I've driven I-8 into San Diego many times and never knew Salton Sea was even there.

Thanks
