Headed Down to Shady Valley for a Ride Today
«

I took a run down to Shady Valley today from Bristol, TN. Just got started in the twisties and got the slow down sign from an oncoming bike.
Made the next turn and found this little guy sitting across the road.
Had an HD pull up beside me while we were waiting for the truck to dislodge itself. Thought you all might be interested in seeing the paint job.
The husband and wife that were riding the Yankee HD were both from NY but have been living in Miami, FL since they were teenagers. They were off to see the Dragon next.
Made it to Shady Valley eventually and grabbed a hotdog at the store. Road on down to Mountain City. Drove a little ways into town and took 167 over to 67 for a little change of pace. Very scenic, if you haven't gone that way you should give it a try. Lots of trees, farms, and water views. This road eventually dumps you back on to 67 before the turn to Boone, NC. I took 67 on around Watauga Lake and into Elizabethton, TN. Went through Elizabethton shot up 91, road the other leg of the snake back into Shady and then snaked my way back to Bristol. I’m not much of a rider and need all the practice on the twisties that I can get. Today’s ride was about 100mi. It was an enjoyable ride. I’ve tagged on some scenery pic’s. If any of you all get over this way and don’t mind riding with a noobie let me know.

Nice pics, I've only been out there a few times... cool paint job on that Harley too, except they
misspelled "If Heaven ain't a lot like Dixie, I don't want to go..." on the front fender

Although I don't agree with the HD fender, it is a good looking bike. Pretty foliage over there. Thanks.

I'm not far from Shady. I ride it several times a year....but probably a little
slower than some do. Have you been on 91 from Shady to Elizabethton?
I like it as good or better thn the Snake. Give me a yell next time you're
headed that way.....but with a new Grandbaby in the house I can't
guarantee I'll be able to go anywhere.

Rode 91 yesterday. I'll PM you my number, give me a call when you're available. We'll drag CharlieMac out too. He's from over my way.

I just googled Shady Valley to see where it is and ran across this site that's pretty cool. There were some things I haven't seen in my own back yard, not to mention that Harley that has 300 lbs of gear!

Great ride report.
Wife and I just got back from the Boone area last week. Rode all the "famous" roads up that way (Snake and Dragon) and saw a lot of pretty country to boot. That Fall ride SmokinJoe and the gang are going on this weekend should be fabulous. I'm just betting SmokinJoe is a hell of a tour guide!! Good riding my friends and be safe!
