So Cal

« on: October 14, 2011, 01:50:05 AM »

I live off a two-lane twisty canyon road. The speed limit is 30 MPH and no passing is allowed. Lips Sealed

As you might guess, there is every kind of vehicle (Motorcycles, Cars, Bicycles, Trucks, etc...), which travel this road at 'bout 55-65 MPH! Roll Eyes

I never travel pass the 30 MPH speed limit because there are several speed-traps along the way. police angel

Yesterday I went for a ride on the Valk and as usual, I cruised down my road @ 25-30 MPH. It was a beautiful day and the weather was perfect! Smiley
Suddenly, I caught him on my peripheral vision, but it was too late. As he passed me on the right I got a little shaken...

At first I said WTF! But then I pulled over to regain my wits and busted out laughing.  I can only imagine the expressions of drivers
who were following behind us and saw his maneuver... Embarrassed 2funny crazy2

It was an old man in his 70's, riding his bicycle passing the Fat Lady on my right @ 'bout 35 MPH! 2funny

Sometimes there are little things in life that bring a smile to ones face. Smiley

I wonder if the "trappers" ever ticket bicycles for speeding?

Reminds me of the much posted pic of the Harley being passed by a bicycle. Too bad somebody didn't snap a pic.  Evil I'm sure it would have been a popular post on some boards.

Seen the Park Police pull over bicycles on the Skyline Dr (35mph).  Actually watched with humor as a cop tailgated the bike zooming down the hill with no idea what was behind him.

Felt sorry for them..... they work their ever lovin butts off getting up those hills, and deserve to fly down the other side (an easy 50+mph).

What does bug me is bikes in traffic disregarding ordinary stop signs and lights.

Oh yea Jess, The bicyclista in the left turn lanes. Major chapper.
I do crack up, however when the dude on the bike is at the same stoplight after darn near being run over by the jacked up bright red 4X4 F-250 that almost ended my friggin morning today who thinks he's gonna make time by being a hazard and pushy.
Sorry, got kinda shaken up and ranty.

Mama and I were visiting Mackinac Island which doesn't allow motorized vehicles of any type. the island was awash in tourists and because of the restriction, the streets are clogged by bicycles, pedestrians, and horse drawn wagons.  We were walking down the hill that leads from the big hotel into the main downtown district and noticed they had a posted speed limit on the hill.  At the bottom of the hill was, you guessed it, a policeman with a radar gun.

As we were there watching, he stopped a young man on a bicycle who was traveling almost too fast, but crossed the line by actually taking both hands off the handlebars, the policeman's definition of reckless driving.

I guess on an island with no motorized vehicles, traffic enforcement by definition becomes a bit more creative that we would have expected.    Smiley
