Desmog and jet change piece of cake

Wow, I did the desmog couple of weeks ago on my Valk. I must have been lucky as it was a piece of cake! I studied what others have done and the tricks used. I found that you do NOT have to jack the engine up to pull the rear motor mounts out to get out the carb pack. The pack comes out easy (ya gotta twist it) AFTER the desmog crap is removed. I disconnected the throttle linkage and choke linkage and it really was a piece of cake. I also made note of the many problems others have had in reinstalling the airbox, followed their shortcuts and it went in the first time. I checked with light and mirrors to make sure the box was seated correctly. In addition I replaced the slo's with #38's. I found that the person who had the bike before me did not adjust the carbs correctly. The pilots went anywhere from 1/2 turn to 2 1/2 turns out!! No wonder I had no power and hesitation at low speed. She purrrs like a kitten now and a quick blip of the throttle is rewarded with an instant/no hesitation of rpm increase (unlike before ). Of course my back has prevented me from taking it out on the road but I will take it out soon.
Anyway, what I am saying is that although the job of desmoging looks complex it really is not. Just study the posts about it and go for it unless of course you are not mechanically inclind. Changing jets at the same time I would recommend and replacing the bowel screws with socket head screws are a must while it is apart.
Thanks for all those in previous posting on desmoging and shortcuts you had posted. It helped immensly.

good job....
I've also found that replacing the intake runner clamp screws with socket head cap screws makes securing the airbox to the carbs easier for me by being able to use a t-handle hex key instead of a phillips (or JIS) screwdriver...
