Don't threaten me with a good time

Greeneville, TN

« on: October 16, 2011, 08:39:04 PM »

Friday I decided to take a little cruise down the river road in Grafton IL. Couldn't ask for better weather or a better fall day. While riding through town I noticed another Valkyrie parked at a local bar with an assortment of different bikes. It didn't take long after I parked my bike that the Valk rider and I struck up a conversation. His name was Rick from Kentucky. I introduced him to the VRCC and told him to check out the website. He had just bought his Valk a few months ago, and was pretty much in love with it cooldude

Ricks Valk

We split ways and I proceeded to head home for the day. While heading home, some idiot on an Ultra Classic decided to ride behind me. I slowed down to make a turn and BANGGGG!!!!

The fellow rider clipped my ass end with his crash bar. As soon I felt the smack, I look over my shoulder to see a bike pass me with no rider!!!! I pulled over, got off my valk, and started searching for the rider to other bike. Luckily, I find him along the road dazed and confused. I did a quick assessment of the damages. His HD was pretty well transformed into a POS in a matter of seconds. Thankfully my valk is just going to need a new saddlebag and bag rails.

I was pretty worked up about the whole thing, but crap happens. So now I'm just waiting on Insurance to come through.

I did learn one thing. If you ride a Harley, and decide to rear end a Valk, It will kick your ass right off your Harley (obviously).

At least I can call 1-800-RENTAVALK (Painter and Poe) and get a loaner for the time being. I guess I'll have to live with riding a damn Interstate for a while  Grin

Ouch!
As Bill Clinton would have said: "... I feel your pain..."  Lips Sealed

Yup. Six weeks ago my Valk laid over. My left leg got caught in between the hard bag and the curb. The HOT pipe
proceeded to make some beef jerky out of my Chin... blah, blah...

With her weight on my leg, the hard bag finally cracked and flew off. As it did, it left a nasty scrape right next to the burn.  Cry

In summary, my hard bag could be repaired... but I went ahead and bought a nice USED set of Leather Hard bags
off a Harley. Am still waiting for them to arrive.

BTW... I often see Valkyrie hard bags like yours on eBay. I'm referring to the sale of a single bag; sometimes the left,
other times "the far right."  2funny

That's too bad Reb... Glad you're ok.  Sounds like he wasn't paying much attention to his riding.  Hope it all works out with his insurance.

Glad you are ok.......thats exactly how The Queen and I was wrecked.......a HD following behind that wasnt good at stopping or turning.  As I also suspect with the dude that hit you, the dude that hit me NEVER used his front brakes.

We just got back from Daytona and I watched an Ultra Classic NOT make a corner because he slammed on rear brakes at the last second, locked up the rear and slid into the curb.  His passenger was not happy; she was bruised and banged up a bit, but both were ok.

Suck dude!

See what you get when you let them things ride too close to ya?

That's why I never trust a guy I don't really know, and why I don't really like riding in groups bigger than about 5.  I know that's not what happened here.

Never trust a fart, or a rider behind you that you don't know.

Glad you are OK.  And you got a HELL of a pit crew to help you get her back together.

Glad to hear you're ok!, Thats one of the inherent dangers of riding a Valk around Hardly owners. They're too busy looking at what they can't have, and not paying attention to whats going on around them....  Grin

That is the main reason you will always find me pulling up the anchor.

If a motor comes up behind me, I move to the extreme right lane and motion him around me on the left.   If, I know the rider, I'll let him stay in the anchor position.

I appreciate all the concern from everyone, makes me proud to be apart of a group like this. I did my own figuring of the damages and came up with a price range from ($2445.66-$2713.80). Based on Honda's price for a new left saddlebag and some extras. Including the OEM saddlebag rail that can't be purchased new any longer from Honda. As well as an estimated price for the custom painting of the bag. Does that sound about right? I'm prepared to get pissy if his insurance wants to play games.

I'm going to double check the saddlebag mounting brackets. They look straight from the naked eye after I removed the bags. Going to try sitting one of Uncles bags from his Interstates to see if everything lines up correctly.

Seems good. My insurance gave me $2500 for a right bag, front fender, and shield.

Just talked with Uncle about it last night. I'll most likely be rolling in on one of his Interstates. Doubt my standard/tourer will be up to speed by Veterans Day. I'm praying the weather keeps its path until then. It's hard to judge IL weather in November. Depending on the how mother nature turns out, you can count Painter and I in for sure cooldude  cooldude  cooldude
