I just did and made a #$%$%$%& mess. Seems no matter how you tilt the bike you ain't gonna get the reservoir anywhere near level. I got as close as I could and proceeded to pour in the fluid. It over flowed and made a mess. Thankfully none got on the paint but I washed her good just to be sure. I ended up taking the reservoir completely loose from the handle bars, topped it off then put the cap back on before reattaching to the handlebars. This is awkward to say the least and I was lucky I didn't spill any more than I did. Is there an easier way?  Cry

I slid the reservoir up on the handlebar and turned it so that it was level  and snugged up the two bolts to hold it in place..  I had to move it almost to the bend in the bar to do this, but it worked fine for me and I was able to fill it full.  Afterward, I loosened the bolts and moved it back to where it belonged on the handlebar.

Just loosen the reservoir a little so it will move on the bar. Turn the bars all the way one direction so the desired reservoir is higher, then rotate the reservoir so it is level. cooldude

Or loosen the handlebar clamp and rotate the handle bars up to help level.

just did this to my bike; 1st thing is dont overfill res. there are drain slots in the rubber baffles and fluid may seep out after you reenstall. get it as close to level and only fill to full mark. you should bleed old clutch fluid out with mighty vac. but dont let fluid get below hole in res.when filling res. use bottle with long nose or a turkey baster might work. cover up with towel befor you start work just in case you spill. if you do brakes dont overfill cause when you change shoes you may not be able to compress pads enough to get new shoes on.

It really doesn't need topping off!

The clutch system does not consume any fluid so topping off is not necessary.

As long as you can see the level in the sight glass you are Ok.

Use a ear syringe to top off, or a turkey baster, pouring into the master cylinder is a PIA.  Hoser

You could do that but I just poke two small holes in the foil under the cap (one on each side like you used to for for oil cans back in the day) and that allows you to pour a small amount in a controlled fashion. You know, just in case you don't have a syringe handy.

+1 on what Anvil said. For topping off/or refilling the resevoirs, use a ballpoint pen to make a small hole in the foil, and go from there.

why do you want to top off the reservoir?  this is not necessary. if it's at the bottom of the glass it's okay.  all it has to do is cover the bottom hole in the reservoir.   if you top it off by turning the reservoir around, then there is a good chance that the fluids going to weep out.

Not to mention that covers on reservoirs are a pita.

If you do not get them back on exactly the way they were, you chance producing a leak, since the sealing surfaces are not perfect and the gasket has memory.  Overtightening is a no-no.
