The Landmass Between Mobile And New Orleans

« on: October 20, 2011, 08:42:54 PM »

Was in Academy Sports in Gulfport, MS today and bought a Marlin Model 795 .22 rifle.  It's basically the same gun as the Model 60 except it has a detachable magazine instead of a tubular one.  The price was $129.95 plus tax.  What makes it even sweeter is Marlin has a $25 rebate so it will end up being $104.95.  That's about half of what a Ruger 10/22 costs.

I just picked up a gun permit application for New York.  I have to get 4 people to complete a character reference form and have it notarized, BEFORE, I can even submitt the application, which then takes 2 to 3 months to go through its process.  What a PITA !!!!

That's a nice deal on the 795!  cooldude  I have two Model 60s and love 'em! The 795 is supposed to be just as sweet.

The next .22 I want to find is a Marlin 7000 - superb little target rifle but they're pretty rare.

I don't think the Marlin's have the aftermarket support like Ruger does in the 10/22 (rifle) or Ruger Charger (pistol) lines.  However, for an inexpensive 22lr Rifle, it is what it is, and at a great price.  My Ruger 10/22 looks similar, cost more yet has more aftermarket accessories as well.... but it still shoots a 22lr like the Marlin above.

Ruger Charger with Archangel kit.....

Nice one, I just picked up a Uberti High Wall Sharps in 45-70 the other day, always wanted one, its got some good looking wood on it, and it also has a healthy recoil.  Everyone needs a good 22 rifle or three, agree a 22 Mag auto would be fine, I have a Henry lever in 22 Mag.

Nice rifle, I miss my 22 marlin. No need for upgrades or after market extras. Killed a lot of squirrels with my marlin open sights.

No, the 795 hasn't been around as long as the 10/22; however, most accessories for the Model 60 work on the 795.  Also you can adapt a stock for the 60 to fit the 795.  You have to cut a hole for the magazine well.  Marlins have a reputation right out of the box for accuracy.  I got to compare the 10/22 and 795 side by side and the Marlin has a thicker barrel plus it's actually screwed into the receiver not held in by a locking wedge.

If I wanted a military style weapon I would buy an AR, AK, HK, FN FAL or any of a multitude of others.  I don't need to take something and dress it up into what its not.  Besides that pic is of a Ruger 10/22 based pistol.

There's something to be said for a simple, clean, classic design.  Only plans for this one is the addition of Tech Sights and running about 500 rounds through it at an Appleseed shoot next weekend.

Yes, sort of.

Well more of a sniper/tactical look, that's a 16x scope on there, and with the raised & open scope rings you can still use the iron sights for up close work.

My eyes ain't what they used to be. I gave about the same last year at BassProShops. the scope is a cheapy but the .22 doesn't have a butt load of recoil so it should be fine for tack driving at 75yds.
And the scope is COOL!

I added a flash light with flip up red lens cover and a Red laser both mounted on the scope, sorry don't have a picture of that, but here is the manufacturers pictures.

I wish you could get extended magazines for this little plinker, loading 10 at a time and running out so soon SUCKS!

Look around, you can do as much to a Ruger as a Ford Mustang http://shopruger.com/ Many after market accessories available too. Fun to shoot accurate to shoot, cheap to shoot and you don't go home black & Blue from recoil  cooldude I've added a tactical light, laser and a scope. All on at the same time.
Congrats Marty, you'll love it.

Thats a great little gun, fun to shoot. I've got a 77 Glenfield 60 made by marlin with the 18 shot tube feed, they are so much fun and cheap to shoot. Check out the rimfirecentral.com forums. Boyds makes some really cool stocks for the 795, Model 60 and 10/22's.
I believe this is a 795 with a boyds ss evelution stock.

I found my pictures of the laser and flash light that I mounted on my scope.

The picture above was a poorly taken picture the laser and flashlight are actually straight not tilted as they look in the photo.

The red cover on the flashlight flips up to expose the white light flashlight.

Man I need to do some other sexy pictures of my other guns, although this is the one I have done the most modifications too
