Get on it and RIDE!!

Hardwick NJ

« on: October 22, 2011, 03:37:30 PM »

Let out this morning for New York state to meet Bonzo his wife Patty,Stan(njf6cowboy)Mark and Oss for a little ride.
We left Chester NY and headed for the Shawangunk Mountain Ridge.

The Shawangunk Ridge /ˈʃɑːwəŋɡʌŋk/, also known as the Shawangunk Mountains or The Gunks, is a ridge of bedrock in Ulster County, Sullivan County and Orange County in the state of New York, extending from the northernmost point of New Jersey to the Catskill Mountains.

The ridgetop, which widens considerably at its northern end, has many public and private protected areas and is not heavily populated, boasting only one settlement of consequence (unincorporated Cragsmoor). While in the past, it was chiefly noted for mining and logging and a boom-era of huckleberry picking, as well as the fires set to create favorable conditions for further growth. Today it has become known for its outdoor recreation, most notably as one of the major rock climbing areas of North America. Also known for its biodiversity and scenic character, the ridge has been designated by The Nature Conservancy as a significant area for its conservation programs.[1]

The leaves are just a little past peak but still looking good!!

Stopped and had some lunch at this little BBQ wagon and it was GOOOOOOOOD

All in All was a good day thanks Steve and Patty for getting us all together and good luck Stan on that new knee cooldude

Judy you got that shot of the red tree !  Great job also the one
of the ridge just before the pulloff

I ended up taking 17 east off of 209 to the Palisades Pky circle

The CB worked fine once I figured the CB volume is separate from the radio volume and the
squelch settings

Could hear Stan perfectly and with no static once everything was set. Of course I think
he maybe said 5 words the whole time, but they was good ones  2funny

Always a pleasure to see the both of you

Still fine colors, even this late in the year. Parts of New York are surely in the top 10 of riding areas in the country.... especially this time year.

Great Pics Judy!  Route 44/55 from Rt. 209 in Kerhonkson to New Paltz or visa versa is a beautiful ride! One of the most scenic around. There are so many places to see in the area, Mohonk Mountain House (famous and pricey), "The Gunks" that you can climb if so inclined or hike for free, New Paltz is a great town. Apple Picking, Sky Diving, Glider Planes and some Great wineries! We got some great riding here in the Hudson Valley, and some great folks to ride with!
