Okay so October is rapidly disappearing.  Cry Winter is coming, which is a pain but not necessarily the end of riding. One thing about Kansas winters there is still riding days almost every month. cooldude One of the goals of trying to get the Kansas Riders more organized and active is to have at least one activity a month. I was counting the Wrench Party, Nov. 5th, as an event, which it is.  Smiley However I have had some express interest in trying to do a ride/get together that does not involve working on bikes.  ??? With that in mind what is everyone else's thoughts?  angel David and Pam have expressed an interest in planning a ride in the northeast part of the state  crazy2 sometime in the future, which is very cool! cooldude I ,personally, would also like to see the rides move around the state so they are not all in the northeast corner, where a majority live now, so that everyone gets equal opportunity to attend, travel, and explore.  2funny I also think some of the national rides could be our ride for the month, like July is INZANE!!

Now what should a ride be?  Shocked ??? Well that is a whole new discussion, but needs to be addressed as well. My personal thoughts are it would be nice to have an overnight ride once a quarter and day rides the rest of the time. What do you think?  Smiley It should also be noted that "rides" can be attended in a cage as well. Everyone has issues at times that do not allow for riding the bikes whether it be weather, health, time, mechanical, or other commitments. I, again my personal view, see these rides as an opportunity for friends to get together and socialize, so how you get there doesn't really matter! Of course riding is also part of the fun! cooldude Evil They can be detailed, or as simple as let's meet for lunch here!

Now with all that information  Roll Eyes I think it is easier to plan these things if we set a certain weekend each month as our "ride" weekend.  Shocked Like the first weekend of every month, the second, etc. that lets people kind of plan by knowing tentatively something will be going on this weekend all year. Smiley Or should we just fly by the seat of our pants?

Now, I am NOT in charge I am just trying to keep some momentum going and expressing some personal views. So everyone chime in!! Do we want to have a "ride" in November and December? Who is willing to plan one if we do? Should we set a "date"  for rides? Do we want to do a sign up for rides for next year and who will plan them each month?

Should we just put up some poll pages on these subjects?

Good post John. Me being a bowhunter, my weekends from now through the middle of December are spent sitting in a tree.  As far as Pam and I putting a ride together, would be happy to but probably not until spring. My opinion on the lunch get togethers is, if we can get them more centrally located for everyone then more people would be able to attend. When you have a lunch at a certain time and it is 200 miles one way for people to get there, it makes it hard for those people to make it. I realize this is not always possible. We have been on both of the weekend gatherings this year and have really enjoyed them. This is a great group of people and enjoy being around them. As many of these gatherings as we are able to attend we will.

Thanks for responding Dave.

No problem, on this spring or when ever, I wasn't sure when you were interested in leading a ride, but glad to hear you were interested. Good luck on the Deer hunting I always wanted to try the bow hunting, but I know that takes a lot of time I don't have, lucky if I get out to rifle hunt. Missed the last two years, this year is now not looking good. Sitting in trees also gives you lots of time to plan rides!! 2funny

I agree also, ideally we would shoot for centrally located "lunch" meets, but that really starts limiting locations as well. During the summer not so much as the days are longer. I also think it is unrealistic to think everyone will make all of them, it just won't happen. But if we set them up ahead of time we have a better chance of getting as many as we can. We can still do last minute throw togethers like yesterday, they are fun too.

I know we had talked on the fb page about making something like the 3rd weekend of the month.  That still works for Shay and I, but I can only speak for us.  I have really enjoyed every trip I have made where I have met up with the Valk riders.  I look forward to many more rides.  It does not matter to us where the meetings are, we will make the rides when we can.  We just need to know when and where!

It all sounds good to me. I'm more of a fly by the seat of my pants kind of guy. Which I think will work better due to the uncontrollable weather.

CHIME!!

 cooldude

Okay okay... On a serious note.

I think that it would be a good idea to set a standard date each month and I like the quarterly weekend retreats.  It is a fun time to hang out for a weekend with all the locals.  I sure did have a blast in Wamego and I think most did.  I am ready for another weekend trip...  I see us running into a few kinks the next two months,  Turkey Day and Santa coming to my house , so with that in mind I would say it would be a good idea to get dates for those two months now and not have them the third weekend all because of what I mentioned earlier.

With that said.  I have no problems planning a ride, weekend trip, etc.   John (aka. Whistler), we have talked many times about this and what you have said pretty much sums up what we had kicked around in those conversations so I would say that for ten months out of the year I can see the third weekend every month working but I think the last two months the date should be bumped up to give time for the holidays.

Nonetheless, I enjoy this group and love the rides... I missed out on the last trip but enjoyed hearing about it and makes me hungry just thinking of the chicken fried steak Sad

I'm the new guy, so just throwing ideas out, but the 2nd and 3rd Sundays are full for me.  Does anyone go to Cassidy on the first Sunday, and if so, could the meeting coincide with it?  Maybe everyone rides in, and then we meet somewhere mid afternoon and do business, then party on with the crowd?  Just an idea Smiley
