Does anyone know the status of the Memorial Day event in Tucumcari?   ???  Is it on?  Is it off?  Will it be moved in time or place?  Stan

The new owners of the Blue Swallow have graciously agreed to allow us to continue our annual event.  I don't know any specific details --- but Steve Cain is the NM State Rep --- maybe he'll chime in here with some information.

But for now -- you can certainly consider the gathering to be on as usual  cooldude

Memorial Day is May 28th --- so the gathering will begin May 25th - 26th (ride -- somewhere) - 27th (BBQ) - head out May 28th

My bad..I should have checked with the people in charge instead of shooting off my mouth.  As of now I don't know.  Just going to leave it up the individuals and stay completely out of it.

Keep wanting to go to the building that was the "jailhouse" scene in Easy Rider in Las Vegas.  Man, ALL of New Mexico is a biker's dream.  You can also check out the diner from Wild Hogs (Madrid - yes, it's a real place).

Great country all around there..........I LOVE NEW MEXICO!!!!!!!!!

Gonna try to make it this year. Thats a kind of busy time for me but I gotta get out.
New Mexico is a biker's paradise. I was stationed there in the Navy and went all over the place.
The wife loves it and is fond of green chili. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmgreeeennnnchiiiilliiiii.

One year I had cruised through before hitting Tucumcari since I was coming from the NW side. Made a stop off in Taos for breakfast at Michaels kitchen. Good place to stop but usually very busy. They can load you up on fresh baked goods.  Smiley

It can get a bit congested, especially for a group ride, in town and on the hwy if you do decide to go.

There is a great Veterans Memorial in the Eagles Nest/Angle Fire area nestled in a nice spot:

There is a fairly drab stretch of hwy between Las Vegas and Tucumcari at least the route I chose. Undecided

Either way, even without Red River people seem to find a way to have a good time.

That's all I'm say'n.  Roll Eyes

Michaels does a burger smothered in green chile that's worth riding over to eat.

New Mexico is a great place to ride and I try to see as much of it as I can.

 Smiley
All,
We have decided to move the annual “Tucumcari BBQ” to the town of Las Vegas New Mexico, of course it will no longer be called the “Tucumcari BBQ” but will be the New Mexico Ride In. The Ride In will continue to be on Memorial Day Weekend and we will also continue to support the Melrose Food Pantry with donations raised at the Ride In.
There is some spectacular riding in Northern NM along with tons of NM History in the Las Vegas area. There is also the RED RIVER RUN Motorcycle Rally 94 miles away through some beautiful mountainous roads, 30,000+ bikes if interested.
We should have the details worked out this weekend and will keep everyone updated.
Thanks,
Steve

I thought the Tucumcari event was Des & Kendall's event, not a New Mexico planned event?  The last I knew they were still planning on being in Tucumcari that weekend (as I remember them stating that they would be there at the Blue Swallow every year to celebrate their anniversary that weekend).  The hotels we have used in Tucumcari have gone above and beyond and bent over backwards to accomodate the attendees each year.  I hate to see them left out in the cold, as I believe they count on the business each year.  Rather than pulling away from an annual event for a NM ride-in, can the ride-in be planned at another time?

If memory serves me right, the BBQ started for Kendalls daughters birthday.  From there it was decided to have a meet there every year.  Don't know when it became a NM ride in event.  I'm just say'n.
