Can anyone tell me what is special about taking off the front half of the rear fender? I see 4 bolts and that is it. I read some where that it is a pain to put back on. Getting some body work done and new paint. Which reminds me, Can a side panel tab be repaired? Thanks for any help. Big John #9214

I got the idea to Velcro mine from a fellow Iowa rider.  Mine seems to work great and so did his.   Velcro-ed the down pipe by the front of the panel and a matching place in the panel itself.   I had to press rather hard to get mine to stick.........  Be sure and clean the material with some alcohol to get rid of the grime and give the Velcro a place to adhere to.

Its not as bad to take the fender off. It can be a pain to put back on but its not all that awful. To take the rear half off take out the 2 back bolts of the fender rail. Then take the little bolt off up near the seat. There is a wiring harness underneath you will have to unhook. When you hook it up be carefull not to pinch the wires with the fender, as I have done before. It'll cause a short for the tail lights.

Min is very hard to put back in place. I have a driver's backrest that is held by the 2 large bolts threading in the front portion of the fender. Untill this spring, to get to the battery compartment, I had to remove the backrest, so had to remove those 2 bolts. This spring, I modified the backrest, so I don't have to remove these anymore to remove the battery for winter storage. The problem in my case was that one of the bolts would'nt get back in unless I lifted the fender with a bar slid between the rear tire and the fender (misalignment). As for the side cover, some have JB welded a piece of metal wire with success. Some others have installed velcro. Hope this helps...

The fender is not hard to remove.
First take the back half off[Two side bolts and top bolt in middle
that holds the two halves together. That one will be in the middle.
Next remove the two other side bolts and there is a bolt down
by the battery box that holds the bottom of the inner half.
So you should only have 6 bolts, then you have the wires
for the turn and tag lights.
