I'm going to install rear speakers in my new (to me) 99 I/S and swap out the front OEM ones at the same time. I'd like to make the wiring harness myself. I know I can buy them from E/C, but having miles of speaker wire in the garage I was wondering if anyone has made a wiring harness from scratch and of so what connectors did you use? The female pin connectors for the speakers are easy enough to find, but how about the box connector that connects to the outlet behind the right side cover? Could I just use four female pin connectors?

Just ordered 4 Polk db501 speakers based on the information on this site. Many thanks for the advice and shared experiences!

Ride safe,

Martin

Here are the connectors you want.

If the connector is only $20, it will be cheaper to buy than to make.

I would just buy the pre built harness plug-n-play.

I picked one up from electricalconnections.com a few years ago and I had to create an extension set of cables and match up the connecters to attach the rear speakers to the output on my 4 channel amp I installed in the fairing a little while back.

I have considered making and selling a few setups to attach speakers to an amp installed under the fairing and it would include the front and rear speaker extensions and connectors. I just have no clue how much for the materials and how much real time/labor it would take for each one.

Wise move.    Don't have to worry about wiring gremlins.

Don't bother asking how I know.
