Nope.......liked the red one I saw today.....with the laminated wooden bed liner......and a stock engine would be fine.... cooldude

It'd be nice Joe,  if you'd dig up a few of those re-cycled mason jars in your back yard.....the ones filled with $100's and buy me one of these trucks already restored...$15,000 ought to do it..... cooldude.....besides, you can't take all that $$ with ya and you sure can't hide it forever!!..... Cheesy

I used to have a '66 step side.  The wife called it the "Dinosaur".  The only amenities it had was an AM radio and a heater.  It had seen better days and was rusted out in alot of places, but it had a sweet 283 with a 4 barrel Rochester in it that sounded awesome.  Three speed on the column. Had a duel exhast with true headers and two cherry bomb glass packs under it.  It wasn't all that fast, but it sure sounded like it was.

I've owned a 64 since 1977 so far I have redid the body and paint 3 times and I just bought another cab with most of the metal work done already, to install maybe next year. Drove it all over the US during my army career. Early on I installed a 292 six with a Holly 4 barrel and a Muncie 4 speed which made it fun to drive. Since I've upgraded to a 5 speed and installed power steering. Seldom drive it however the kids  have always claimed it, so the next going over will be for them. Did I say I LOVE THAT TRUCK!

I stink at posting pictures. . . .  Wanted to add a 'tag' that the bed took me, my bride and son #2 about 2 weeks to to. Six coats and sanding. Turned out pretty good I think  Smiley

I think those short box step sides were the best looking beds GM ever made...saw one on a 50's five window and it still looked good.

Tx - Close; it's a 69 'Custom.' Still has all its original Detroit steel, except for the hood (2" cowl) and the rear bumper (chrome was good, but it was dented.) I still have them both. Also, it carry's its original 396 (402) and TH400.

We did a few minor modifications. . . (modern Ignition, hotter plugs/wires, changed out ALL of the old wiring, Alum intake, ceramic headers, 3" pipes, K&N, FDB, etc) Completely re-did the interior and bed. The biggest discussion we had was "should we put seat belt harnesses in it.” The holes were already pre-drilled at the factory, but it wasn't offered. Since the guy I purchased the truck from gave me a new set, we put them in. It looks good and the only ones who notice are the hardcore truck guys. Cheesy

The 'bed' took us a couple weeks. . . The picture I posted doesn't do it justice. It REALLY shines and the pic doesn't show it. It needed ZERO body work - no plastic anywhere - but when I had the cab emptied, I coated the entire interior with POR 15 anyway. It has 82,000 original miles. I got it years 4 years ago. Rewiring it took almost a year of Saturdays, but it was worth it (and fun. . . in a twisted way.)

We really don’t care about restoring it to “factory.” I wanted something I would have saw ‘back in the day.’ Thus, the old school Ansen Slots. . .  and I didn’t bother hiding the modern radio. It’s black and looks good! In fact; the seat cover is red/black Houndstooth which wasn’t offered in 69, but who cares? I want to DRIVE it, not trailer it.

You’re never done with them. . . .  but we’re about ready for another project. My bride has it in her head she wants a 68 Mustang, so we’ve been ‘kind-of’ looking. Now if I only we had the money!

Those trucks are plentiful and can be had for not a whole lot. Some really nice examples here in the desert. Working on them is easy and parts are O'Reillys away.
I have two 72 suburbans. The cool three door models.

FLAVALK: Great looking truck! I like that he kept the tailgate chains. I did too. So many want to take them off and put a modern closer on them. Interestingly, the fleetside and stepside used different chains & hooks. I never understood why.

Yup, it's all original except for the paint. It was repainted (original color) just before he bought it. Whoever painted it did a great job. It only has about 40,000 miles on it since he only drives it occasionally......on nice days. I told him if he ever decides to sell, I want first right of refusal  angel

Here's the BEFORE picture of the bed. . . . Not trying to toot our own horn, but it DID turn out nice. I think it was my bride's touch! She's the 'carpenter' in the family! I can't rub two matchsticks together without one getting broken!
