Did you already have a generator but got a bigger one?  I guess with one that big it transfers automatically?  I bought one but haven't picked it up yet- got a 3000W.  Would like to have a bigger one but won't have time to get everything together so i went ahead and sprung for a smaller one to get through the winter.   Heck I have power outages 2 or 3 times a year that last a day or more.  Another benefit of living here in the peoples republic of maryland.

No power here either! Went out Saturday afternoon at 4:45. Sad Seems like just yesterday when we were out for 6 days for Irene.

Fortunately, my Vanguard 7000 (8400 surge) pretty much handles everything. Pretty expensive way to produce electricity, but better than the alternatives. Our house has become a emergency shelter for neighbors needing refridge space, water, or a hot shower.

Mark

I've got a friend five minutes away who is still without power and it's expected to be down until late Friday. That's a bunch of bullshit. There's no excuse for power to be down that long. The storm wasn't that bad.

3 blind men standing next to an elephant

one holding the trunk
one holding the tail
one holding a leg

(if stan tells the story there is one holding something else but we wont go there)

its different wherever you are

In my area roads are still closed from the sheer numbers of trees and limbs felled
by the leaf and snow laden branches

the road I jog on to get to the gym is still closed
and it is a road the police use to get to their station

I am on because the traffic light for the state highway is on my trunk line
DOT is worried about head on collisions of people turnin left on 4 lane highway

We also started day 5 without power.  tickedoff

They are telling us our town "should" have it Sunday. With Irene still a vivid memory, this is getting old fast. At least now the cable TV mysteriously came back, as did the Internet.  ???

As long as the generator is on, we are at least comfortable. The main computers, which we use to run our business, are still down. They are powered through Battery backed - up power conditioners, and they won't accept the generator power. Not regulated enough I guess. Could be worse though. We could be cold and without water.

What bothers me is the fact that nothing is changing.  Sad They aren't improving anything, just repairing stuff. Connecticut Light & Power (CL&P) has gone on record that they could not afford to go to underground utilities without the consumer paying the tab for that, and that the cost would be crazy, at least per them.  ???

Funny how every time it costs something I have to pay for it, yet during years of record profits, they never ever sent me a profit sharing check.  tickedoff I guess they consider it a one way street.  Shocked When the Cost of fuel goes up, my rates goes up. Grid needs repair, my rates go up. Grid needs upgrading, my rates go up. Record profits, my rates still go up, and they spend the profits. And yes, I understand about a business being in business to make a profit, and responsibilities to stock holders, etc. Must be nice to pass along what you want, and keep what you want.  Embarrassed

But... in MY business, when I have to buy new equipment to service my customers, it's the cost of doing business. Amazing to me how this stuff never comes to my favor. Shocked

Seems to me that CL&P could SLOWLY start to convert their grid to underground, and make that part of their operating costs. Oh well, just another thing to make the blood pressure go up. Angry OK, Ranting is now complete!!!

Or at least trim back the frigging trees so they don't hang right over the power lines.
