Funny you post that, I have been looking for a new Unicycle all day online.  I kind of like the Nimbus 36" pedal version though.  Been riding a unicycle for over 40 years.

Those Italians are whacky. That single pin crank is interesting, but I see all kinds of problems by adding a bunch of extra bearings and short con-rods and the high side loads they produce. Note the deep skirts rotated 90 degrees from the one next to it because side loads are now running parallel to the crank rotation.

But what do you want from people who stubbornly cling to desmodromics?

Desmo is for the fans.

They have a liquid cooled v4 at Ducati.

But Harley has the same fan base on the Vtwin.

They also have a liqiud cooled vtwin that rocks.

Customers rule the market and thats the way it should be.

It will always be that way in the free market.

Unless the Obamanites have their way.

If you discount reliability issues I feel the desmodromic valve train in the Ducati is quite good since the problem of reciprocating weight and spring pressures with the resultant valve seat wear are negligible.

That single pin crank is very interesting. I've never seen anything like that before now.

I remember at Avco-Lycoming working on three dimensional cams so the desmodromic valve train has interest to me as well as that single pin crank.

It's important to be open to new developments in these areas because it won't be long before they become mainstream. Especially if the developments are successful.

Desmo was a response to lack of quality spring steel available in Europe back in olden tymes. It's not a new development at all. Other manufacturers have experimented with it and found that Desmodromics offer no real advantages over quality springs and in fact offer a couple of significant drawbacks. That's why only Ducati bothers with it.
