Stevie was the man.  He died way to young.  I saw him at Alpine Valley the night before he died. He put on a great show that night.  I heard the night that he died, nobody could touch him, not Clapton,  Robert Cray, his brother Jimmie or Buddy Guy.

RIP Stevie.

At around 1:00 a.m. on August 27, 1990, Vaughan was flying by helicopter from East Troy, Wisconsin to Chicago with members of Eric Clapton's tour crew. The helicopter crashed into the side of a 300-foot–high hill. Vaughan was killed, along with Nigel Browne and Colin Smythe. Earlier that evening, Vaughan had played with Double Trouble at Alpine Valley Music Theatre, featured as a special guest with Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, Robert Cray and Jimmie Vaughan.Vaughan was interred at Laurel Land Memorial Park in Dallas, Texas. Martha and Jimmie Vaughan sued the helicopter company, Omniflight, based in Addison, Texas, for negligence in allowing the unqualified pilot, Jeff Brown, to fly and for allowing the flight in dense fog

I was at that same show.  Memorable night for sure.  During Clapton's set, he brought out Jeff Healey to sit in on a song...crowd was going nuts.  When time came for him to leave the stage, he refused.  They had to physically remove him.  You could tell Clapton was pissed.

Remember how foggy it was as the helicopters came in to pick up band members?  I thought at that time, how in the world could the pilots see  to set down.  They came in so low over the hill, it looked like a person could almost jump up and touch the runners.  And it seemed like it took forever for them to set down.  I figure it must have been the same conditions the next night when the copter carrying SRV slammed into the side of the ski hill.  Cry

I do remember the fog being quite bad that night.  I remember hearing the news about Stevie at work.  I thought the guy who told me was messing with me.  Went out to my car at lunch  and listened to the radio.  Very sad day.

Same thing with me.  My best buddy, who knew I went to the Saturday show, called me and told me "dude, you ain't going to believe this".  I was "numb".  Cry  Seen him perform 3 different times.
