...can any of you guys suggest one? I'm looking for info on AR parts primarily.

Also, if any of you have suggestions on chrome bolt/carrier for the AR I'm all ears.

You might try The High Road => http://www.thehighroad.org

I know nothing about an AR, but if the folks at THR cannot help, I'm sure they can point you in the right direction.

Guns and Ammo hosts forums too. I've never looked for AR info there though.

I'm really not trying to be a smart ass, but arfcom... - http://www.ar15.com/

For uppers, I know some don't care for 'em, but I've been happy with mine - http://model1sales.com/

I've also found this site to be a good resource of firearm knowledge - http://www.valkyrieforum.com/bbs/index.php/board,4.0.html

(Okay, so maybe I was trying to be a smartass on that last one)

glocktalk.com has a good AR-15 section among its many forums.  Try it.

We trudge on.

Serk, I actually joined AR15.com and there seems to be a high of jerkoff to normal person ratio over there.

Check out the thread (note that I started it a few hours before this one). It's pretty funny actually...

Well, try not telling them you brought a colt. Most on that forum wouldn't buy a colt to modify it. Although you have that right, they will not understand and thing you are a hack.  If you want to build a rifle and want suggestions on part you might get more responses.

Any chrome mil spec BCG will work if mil-spec. If your worried about cleaning you probably should of put that money down on a Ruger SR556 or a gas system like Adams or osprey.  I've tested both and they work very well. Osprey supplies a new bolt carrier as Adams modifies the existing.

Both gas systems require different rail systems to allow for the gas system.

Dad bought a Colt AR back in the early 90's. $1500 back then. Nice gun. Now AR's are a dime a dozen.  Undecided

AR's might be, but Colt's aren't!

(And if you got the guy that'll sell me a dozen AR15's for a dime, I've got a whole ROLL of dimes! Wink )

Certainly seems that way. But it's not as if I'm "altering" the gun. I'm just making some basic parts upgrades that can be swapped back to stock with a few minutes time. The stock furniture is really not very comfortable so I'm swapping out the forend, grip and buttstock, I've added an ASAP sling adapter and a B.A.D. lever. I might add a chrome BCG in the future but it's not like I'm having my initials engraved in the lower receiver or having anything machined.

But this just goes to show why even though I like guns and grew up around them, I generally don't hang around with "gun people". They're almost as insufferable as guitar players.

Its not really gun owners, anyone who buys a product for the name has a tendency to be defensive.  Colts, Harleys, etc....

Most Colt owners see the rifle as a hunting or sporting rifle rather than an assualt rifle, so the addition of assualt style parts isn't warrented.  Comparing the Colt to an M4 or other similar assualt rifle isn't heard of... there is no comparison.  If you think this sounds familiar within certain circles of the motorcycle crowd you would be correct.

I buy armalite uppers and modify them, there milspec and I like the quality of the barrel and bolt..

initials on the lower receiver would of been acceptable... if it was done in colt script.....lol

Yeah but you get crap if you DON'T modify a Harley.  Wink
