an earthquake in Oklahoma, a respectable 4.0 and everyone's like OMG!
a 4.0 in L.A. and after its over they'd be like 'that wasn't bad give me my latte!'

if Rita would have hit florida folks down there are just better prepared for it, water drains faster into the limestone it probably wouldn't have created the fiasco it did up north.

it's all in your perspective, I moved to Florida folks in Oregon told me ' they have hurricanes down there!'  (really I hadn't heard  2funny ) and I said 'yeah? well we have wild fires up here, so whats the difference?'

I don't think there's anywhere in the country you can escape from all natural catastrophies, it tends to freak out people when it's out of the norm for that area.

I felt my first earth quake in Illinois of all places, we were living on the ground floor of a 12 plex and it shook just a bit. I said "earthquake!" my wife said "no its just the washer out of balance"

I said " hon, we're sitting on a concrete slab. I don't think so"   2funny

Fort Walton Beach, Florida I'm a simple man, I like pretty, dark haired woman and breakfast food.

When tropical storms approach, I usually head to the beach for a look-see.  Tropical storm Lee was the only one that came even close this year.

I've never felt an earthquake before, but I can always get out of the way of a hurricane if need be.  I like it here just fine.....even if it is a furnace in the summer.

Yep. Around here when the tornado sirens go off that means it's time to go out and look!

watching that video of LEE, reminded me of when NITRO and i were heading to Maggie Valley NC last summer!  i kid you not, we were riding down I39, just before Bloomington ILL. and people were pulled off the road while we kept riding!!  the worst part is getting next to a semi truck.

yeah everywere's got it's issues.  we've gone to florida during christmass break, and we'd be the only ones in the pool!!  sure it's 70* out, cold for the natives, hot for us!!  heck, we don't even keep our furnace that hot in the winter!!

I agree with Musclehead about perspective.

We had 2 inches of snow in Louisiana a couple of years ago, and all of the schools shut down.  People were having wrecks like they were filming a "Mayhem" comercial. 2funny
