Well... to start off, let me first say that I'm OK... sort of... There's a few bruises and scratches, but nothing broken.

So early April I got my hands on a 1999 Triumph Thunderbird Sport.  It was beautiful!!!!!

On April 17th, I went to pick her up in Virginia.

Here she is... or was...

About 5 hours into the trip back, somewhere in South Carolina, I decided to find a hotel for the night.  I fueled up and headed towards a hotel I could see from the interstate.  Suddenly, I woke up in a hospital!!!!!!   Embarrassed

Well... the police told me that someone pulled out in front of me.  I hit them just behind the front tire and did a flying superman over the hood of the vehicle.  I remember NONE of it!!  Maybe that's a good thing???

So anyways... 5 hours into ownership and the Thunderbird Sport was totaled.

Here she is now... still in South Carolina...

 :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

Well... At least I still have my Valk!!!!!   cooldude

I'm healing well... the bruises are going away and the scratches are now just scars...

THANK HEAVENS FOR FULL GEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WOW BRO!!!!!!

The main thing is that you are OK....WOW!

The bike can be replaced - I have gotten to know you a little over the last couple of years - and YOU ARE IRREPLACEABLE!!!!!

Heal quick and complete brother!

If there is anything I can do in the next two days before leaving for Bawanaland, let me know.

Have a good trip!

you probably don't want to know what happened there.
Is the bike on a salvage yard somewhere or still in a ditch? That was a pretty bike. Shame you lost the front of it, but it is good that you are okay. Bikes are rebuildable or replacable, but we're not.

You're probably right... I don't want to know.

The bike is in a salvage yard.  The insurance is going to total it.  I looked it over before I came home, and it's not worth trying to fix.  It'd need all the lights, the dash, all the tins, the front forks, the engine's top end (cracked), and parts of the frame replaced.  When I saw the engine cracked in two places, I just left it there instead of bring it home.  I like working on bike... but I'm not good enough to rebuild THAT much.

then why drag it home.
From the pic I would have said throw a front end on there and make a bobber. If the engine is cracked and the frame is bent (likely enough) then its not worth playing with. Just ask someone to send that magnetic tank bag to you and lose the rest. That's a shame, but yeah, probably not worth much more than spare parts at best to anybody. You'd have to find somebody whose bike was ran over in the parking lot (only across the rear) to find enough bike to build with that one to make a whole bike again.

Stil debating...  I'm thinking 1 of 3 things this time...

Either, fine a twin 500 or twin 650 engine to cram into my KLR650 frame...
Or, An Aprilia Dorsoduro...
Or, A KTM 950 Super Enduro or Super Moto...

(Can you tell I really like the dirtbike seating to running around town???)

Not sure which...
