Off for a ride through park today.  About 175 miles total.  The south entrance has been closed for about 2 months because of flash floods washing out road but open this week.  It is about 40 mi from my house and east on I-10 where I get off on 2 lane road up into park.  About 20 miles up to park through desert. Cold and a little rainy up in the park today . . . unusual.

Park is immense, 800,000 acres and parts of 2 deserts, low desert (Colorado desert below 3000') and the Mojave desert above.  Lots of creosote in in low desert and joshua trees in high desert.  Here is a cactus grove at the transitional level.  Cholla cactus . . .

Then on up to Joshua trees and rock formations.

Finally back home through the windmills as the sun is going down.

Very nice day.  Now settling in for the Steelers and the Ravens.  cooldude

Have seen the sign for Joshua Tree many times traveling I-10 to the Bay Area, never ventured into the park. I can also remember when that windmill farm was not there along I-10 in the Palm Desert, it has become an awesome site, eventhough unsitely. Hope to ride that region someday, great pix and thanks for sharing.

If you are riding  and it is a must that you keep your eyes on the road, you are riding too fast.

Yep, unseasonably cool here over the last week (10 - 12* below normal temps) with front that moved through and on to AZ.  Gettting into the cooler weather for those in the south.  Can't imagine you "northerners" that have to shut down the bikes for the winter.  Guess I will be seeing a lot more political rants from you poor riders with nothing else to do.  Wink

We had a good bit of snow on San Jacinto mtn here (10,800').  Its nice to be down on desert floor with 70* and look up and see the snow covered mountain tops.  Makes you appreciate it more.
