just new to the fat girl world and loving it. it makes a good pair with the "X".
now my question, it was said that if i was looking to keep my new girl that it would be smart to acquire an extra final drive, well i found one. what is an acceptable price  for such a deal.
this guy wants $650 sound out of line .  or am I just out of touch ? Cool

If you perform regular maintenance, keep the splines moly-pasted and the pinion cup weep holes open, follow the proper steps and stick to the 10K mile schedule, you'll probably never need it.  The important part is "YOU" or someone you trust to perform the service.  Dealers seem to be the biggest culprits in terms of not keeping the final drive in good repair by not doing the proper maintenance.

I just sold one with a little wear, not much and also had the matching male splines and drive shaft for $200.00. I believe $650.00 is a little on the high side.JMO

Hey that advice sounds familiar....Grin

Price sounds high to me.

Hopefully you'll never need one, but parts aren't gonna get any cheaper or easier to find the longer you have it. If you like the bike as much as I think you will couldn't hurt to have a few parts on the shelf just in case. Judgement call whatever you decide to do. Don't think I could pay that much for one. It's too bad Showtime can't take care of the Valk finals like he does for the X.

+1.  Anything over $300 is too much, at least for now!

It all depends upon the wear factor since that is the usual reason the gear box gets changed out.

If the drive splines are near to perfect then 650 is an Ok price.

Most stuff on eBay and Pinwall is already picked over and the best is gone so you can not expect to get anything that is not already used up half of it's life.

Of course, with good maintenance practices, a pumpkin with a half life remaining will still have many miles of good service in it's heart.

My next door neighbor just spend $500 for a final drive and drive flange, plus shipping..it was in excellent shape...way too much if you ask me, but he's now back on the road with some piece of mind that the won't be walking back from his next ride...

Maybe $650 is OK if it is the only one you can find, is near perfect, and you can't ride your bike because
the one you have is unusable.

But I'd keep looking if I was just wanting a spare...

Pinwall is getting "new" stuff all the time, no telling what he might have on
hand at any given time... he puts "new" stuff directly on ebay first, so he probably
moves most of his good final drives that way now.

$300 or less is what I'd shoot for if looking for a spare to keep on-hand.

I'd buy another Valk before spending that kind of  money on a part that may never be needed

I wouldn't say so. If you keep them lubed and follow the recomended tightening proceedure you should get many more miles out of that last 75%.

I am a new owner and know about using Moly on the final drive, but what are the  "pinion cup weep holes"?

Any pictures?

And these are the guys that are prying $500.+ for a rear fender rack.... LOL

I have one with 1000 miles on it and I would get at least that price + shipping..... It will
stay in the box if I can't get that price for it....

Go to the Shoptalk page and have a look at the article 'Rear End Service by ChrisJ'. It's the best at explaining the spline lube and gets into the pinion cup. When lightly greasing the pinion cup, you will find two small holes in the base of the cup. Make sure they are not clogged, as lube from the final drive will keep it oiled while riding.
