As Joe noted in another thread, we had a 5.6 Earthquake here in central Oklahoma on Saturday night.  http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/dyfi/events/us/b0006klz/us/index.html

So while ole mother nature was in the mood for shaking things up, why not a few November tornado's a few days later (today!)

http://www.kfor.com/news/local/kfor-southwestern-ok-tornado-watches-warnings-headed-to-metro-20111107,0,2924337.story

The earthquake was a first for me.  I'd never felt one before but there was no questioning what it was when it happened.  Very strange feeling.

The tornado's?  Just another day in Oklahoma, and we need the rain!

You two guys are pretty good on your fault Data.

New Madrid was active one time and the Missisippi Flowed Backwards for a spell.

Reelfoot Lake was formed.

Them earthquakes are not to be messed with.

Nor the tornados.

I think Joe hates both.

I was about 60 miles from the epicenter of the 7.0 in the San Francisco area several years ago....lasted 18 seconds, long enough to decide to vacate the building (only a two story).  The parking lot had waves rippling thru the asphalt, light poles were swaying and cars were bouncing around like jello....very strange.  I swear the plate glass windows flexed  6 inches....walked around like a drunk....what a ride!
Scott, I grew up in a little town west of Ardmore, must be all that water injection in the oil wells lubricating the fault zones around the Arbuckles....chuckle.

When they fire off the cannons on Confederate Memorial Day on the
State House grounds, the plate glass windows on the modern buildings across the street
look like jello  Cheesy

Oklahoma,.....pretty soon the center of the country is going to be vacant. With tornados, flooding, drought, extreme cold, and now earthquakes,....did you piss God off?

Just joshin, but I'm putting on my flameproof suit just in case. Wink

Scott, "strange" is a perfect description of how a quake feels. When I lived in La La Land I went thru a few. One thing we all have in common is the fact we stand on the ground, our source of stability. When it becomes unstable it's almost impossible to wrap our heads around the sensation.
