Hi, thanks again for all the advice given, I think I'm nearly done...  I recently acquired/inherited a valkyrie that had been sitting for a very long time (maybe 4 or 5 years)

So far I have,
pulled and cleaned the carburetors, replacing the slow jets with the 38s and new o rings from redeye

desmog, cleaned intakes and installed new o rings and reinstalled carbs, did the manual sync, will need to do vacuum sync

reinstalled throttle and choke after lubing them, and installed fuel filter and dan marc fuel valve, and a pingel petcock, tested and reinstalled airbox

gas tank was very rusty at spout, petcock nipple and at spots even through the factory clearcoat... I acid etched to bare metal and re coated with a tank treatment, looks pretty even coated, and no rust Smiley

Pulled the forks, changed the springs (progressive), and added fresh oil

checked the front bearings (good), cleaned and lubed and reinstalled front wheel

added a light bar, with a seperate relay and switch (wired to be shut down when ignition switch engaged, and while I was in there, I did the headlight mod and put the headlights on seperate relays

added an electical connections led rear turn signal conversion kit, for hopefully improved visibility

added cig lighter for accessories Smiley

mounted a rivco air horn, chrome looked like it had went through a rock slide, remounted under the bike by the side stand bolts, nice and hidden, but still loud

pulled rear wheel, did the rear brake cleanup, good pads left, pulled final drive, so far looks good, going to pull the ujoint and re lube and relube the pinion and splines and change the o rings before I put back together, back tire doesnt appear dry rotted, however, found what looks like a plug, running low on funds, but dont want to scrimp on something so important, will pull tire off and either patch, or maybe new tire.  Also going to change the shock bushings, only 13000 miles and they already look bad :/  warped and torn, gonna try and get some nylons or higher quality ones

front brakes, caliper pistons siezed, both sides, I had a devil of a time getting them out, looks like a hard white powder formed under the piston rings, causing them to clinch hard on the pistons, havent quite decided how to get them clean, almost rock hard and I dont want to damage the piston rings seats, probably gonna try an extra firm toothbrush, and very very fine sand paper, clean them up and install new piston rings and dust seals, and replace the brake pads with oem ones

changed the oil and radiator fluid, going to change the clutch fluid, and all brake lines, and check the valves

Anyways, thats where I'm at, at the moment, and then I might be on the road Smiley  Gonna be different, never road a bike this big, my only bike before this was a vulcan 800, and that was a long time ago, but I'm excited  Grin

If anyone can think of anything that I didnt mention that might be a good idea to do, I would appreciate it, I'm trying to be thorough, have gone through a lot of the previous post, and shop talk, and am very grateful for all the info, but I'm not much of a mechanic, and my budget is pretty low, cant believe how expensive even just the chemicals needed for maintenance, but I'm getting there

Thanks again, oh, and if anyone needs any help on their bikes near orlando florida, I'd be willing to help, I've been learning a ton, and I have custom made lots of neat tools, welded a 10mm very fine thread nut to a 3/8s connector nut and threaded rod, for the right fork damper rod, worked like a charm, and of course the pvc fork seal tool, and working on something to do the tires on, tried a bucket but it was too flimsy, may look for a truck tire or something metal and bucket shaped so I dont damage the rotors

Also, I dont think the exhaust is standard, looked up inside one and lookes like maybe glasspacks, cant wait to hear what they sound like, I have heard a stock valkyrie before, and liked it, so...hopefully not too loud though

I'm impressed.  You've already done so much work.  I feel bad, almost, for being a slacker and getting around to my stuff when I can.
