Hello, I was wondering weather the Valkyrie Standard motor is mounted with bushings that can wear out. I seem to be feeling just a slight bit of vibration through the footpegs and grips. seems to come and go depending on the terrain. Just wondering. Rick.

I've never seen them wear, but I suppose anything is possible.

However, my experience with the vibration you are describing is the pinion cup/shaft on the rear end is in bad shape. If you have not checked it I would do that.

I put on new tires and had the Honda Certified mechanic who is a pal take a look and grease the rear splines, How would I check the pinion. Rick

I believe the std/tourer are hard mounted and the I/S has the upper two rubber mounted.

what DM said and others have related it could be the universal joint

When my universal started to go out that is exactly what I felt.  When it got real bad I felt it through the grips.  Felt like I was riding a Harley.

Could be the left rear wheel bearing too.

It's not a motor mount.

When my left rear wheel bearing went out, I didn't feel anything different.  It sounded like it was chewing rocks, especially when I applied the rear brakes, but nothing felt different.

Pull the rear wheel, pop the pumpkin off the swing arm (take off the 4 nuts and pull).

Pull the shaft out of the diff...that's the pinion cup. Needs regular cleanout assembly lube.

If it looks good, check  the u-joint.

Thanks, The motorcycle only has 12k on it. Would the vibration from the ujoint or pinion happen when the bike was just coasting.This seems to be like a secondary vibration from engine displacement. I might just be imagining things.

It is difficult to isolate an issue while riding. You can always put it up on the lift and spin the wheels, and run it in gear (carefully) and see if you can find something or a location of vibration.  At 12K nothing should be wrong except from sitting too much.

Yep. Just pops out. There is a spring retainer but it is designed to just pop out.

I put a towel down (so I don't damage the pumpkin), hold it a couple inches off the ground by the shaft, and tap the pinion cup on the side till it pops apart.

12k seems low to have a problem with the driveline at all though...but 12k is also a good time to check the cup! (every 10k for me)
