I saw that on the Moto Guzzi forum the other day. Nothing quite like torque!

I guess I'd lost my money. Not sure I the CBR rider was "race Qualified," but the crusty ole boy on the Harley sure was.
The video of the 'Busa and Boss Hoss is a suprise too. I would like to see them race with a 30mph roll-on start. Not having a clutch penalizes the Hoss from standing starts. I still would have (having ridden both) thought the Boss Hoss would be faster in the quarter mile.

That's my kind of a Harley. I don't think the CBR rider was very talented.

The guy just did not know how to ride that sport bike. As I have mentioned in the past I have squared off against many Harleys with my 3rd generation bone stock V4 Magna. Not lost one against a stock or slightly modified Harley (no V-Rods) but they almost always beat me off the line. The Magna like a CBR develops it’s torque in the upper RPM range and I have to slip the clutch a lot to get a decent launch and shift at 9,000 which is a bit above my peak torque point but puts my next gear just under it’s peak torque point. About the time I am half way through second which is their third gear I catch the Harley and once I catch 3rd I’m gone. I do not recall ever having to run it out past 9,000 in third gear against a Harley. You just cannot beat RPM’s and the Harley’s do not have that. The V-Rod is another matter but that does not have a Harley engine.

Youth and enthusiasm are often defeated by old age and experience.
I remember reading in Chuck Yeager's biography about how he would be in practice dogfights against other aircraft and get on the tail of the other pilot regularly. After being told it was the aircraft that made the difference, he would swap out planes with the pilot he had just defeated and guess what - Yeager would still win the dogfight.
It isn't the equipment - it's the pilot.

A Harley is gonna beat just about anybody in that short of a distance, including a Valk. It's all about low end torque. Be a lot closer on a Valk though, another 25 yards and you would blow on by. An experienced driver helps. Hoser

Kawasaki ZX-10 will do 95 in first gear.
It would be a lot different in that case.
Just don't shift.

Jeez, with the way conversation goes on this forum when it comes to anything "Harley", I'm surprised that video was even allowed to be on this site. I mean, come on now, an old, ratty shovelhead, with Ape hangers, a 12" over, raked front end, etc. beating a 170 HP Honda? I really enjoy reading some of the responses trying to find justification for the results of the race. Hilarious! The bottom line is what I have always said, namely that every bike is different, and has it's own charm, qualities, and redeeming values. That's why I love them all, whether Valkyrie, H-D, BMW and many others. Since usually on this site it is posted that most H-D are pretty, and have a lot a chrome, but that they can be beaten by a good rider on a bicycle, it stands to reason that since this old Rat bike had no chrome, and beat a 170 HP Super Bike, that the irrefutable truth is that chrome is a deterrent to speed. This really screws with my value system, since I always thought that the Black & Chrome Valks like my IS were the fastest ones.

Jess; If you'd race any Valk w/a Harley, I take that to mean that you don't mind chasing a Valk. If so, your chances to make a new friend are greatly diminished...

i figured i would get more responses than this , but that said,, do you think i am just plain ignorant? i have owned 3 valks and guess what? my harley wouldn't touch any of them, in any kind of a run,, but yea i will race any valk,, i know i will lose the race, that's a given,, but when the race is over, we shake hands and go get something to drink and tell each other lies about what ever,,,and when all is said and done,, i will have made a new friend, i hope,,,so if you want to race,, bring it on,,,

I'm not interested in racing, but am always happy to share the wind with any rider on any brand. But I still think that Hildo could have climbed on that Honda and still won against that kid riding Hildo's rat bike.

We plan on making a few or your rides this summer and will catch up with ya then.. but please, when i run off and leave ya in the twisties dont get up set, LOL

Jess, I'll take you up on that. Providing I ever get the chance to shake your hand. I raced a guy on a Harley one time. It was a "slow race". Who could go a measured distance in the most time within parallel lines. Wadda hoot. As you progressed down the track the lines got closer. I did win btw, his c/g was higher.
