ABATE, AMA, & MRF rep.

« on: November 17, 2011, 02:28:51 PM »

As a MRF Rep., I attended the "Meeting of the Minds", an international motorcycle rights symposium last month (as did my wife to give a safety course demo).

One of the seminars was how to get on PBS and/or Public Access TV to promote motorcycle safety, awareness, rights, laws, and insurance issues.

I suggested to our ABATE region to try to get our issues out to the public. I called and e-mailed our local PBS station and our local Public Access in Dearborn Hts. MI.

I got a call today by the local producer to come and be interviewed (on live TV), and if he is duly impressed, we will be able to create a weekly motorcycle related TV show.

Wish me luck!

Cool.

I suggest you find out about your interviewer, before the interview.  And/or have a discussion with him about what he intends to ask you.  Forewarned is forearmed.

PBS can be fair and balanced, or NOT, depending.

As ABATE of MI members we believe that as riders we know the risks of riding motorcycles.
We admit that anything you do has consequences and we all are at fault to a certain degree when it comes to accidents. There is no such thing as "no fault".

Our Regional Coordinator (Dave Petitt) and I (Co RC) were interviewed on Public Access TV today, but we went wee a bit long.

We will get an edited CD, then I'm going to have to learn how to post the video.

It was sorta fun telling our side versus the insurance companies and politicians.

If this interview is on live TV, they could be looking for feedback from the audience about the subject matter and their interest...... and if that is the case, have your friends watch it and provide positive feedback to them in wanting more of that kind of programming or spots.

Sounds great look forward to see what is new for us. I have one issue and was going to post for advice.  My wife's company that she works for is self insured thru MI blue cross and blue shield therefore has a rider that 2 wheel motorized vehicles are exempt from coverage. In a nut shell I have to buy health insurance extra for us on my bike insurance and is not the best. Or hope to not get hurt bad and say I fell off a ladder.  To me it is a form of discrimination for riding a bike. I guess it might be different if the president of the company was told the same for his jet ski"s. Still considering contacting my local state senator but her job is good and we need it. Any advice is appreciated.

Garry 2r's

If AAA has its way (good possibliity) motorcyclists here in MI will see a dramatic increase in our insurance rates for 2012.

The MI legeslators (both the House Represenatives and the Senate) have already agreed that in any surcumstance involving M/Cs, that the M/C rider will be at least 35% at fault.

And MI is currently a "no fault" insurance state.

Better bend over and ask them to be gentle.
