I just did a 103 upgrade on mine with the help of a friend. I found that with right tools and the right bearings you can do a good job by yourself. Seems to have much more grunt. After a trip to the dyno it shows 93HP and 106 TQ That is great numbers for this old clunker. I started with a 96inch so many of the parts are reused. But I will tell you one other thing, The Valk will still spank it! Shortleg[Dave]

I have a 2004 88inch, is it worth the money to upgrade for more power or was it just because you wanted to do it. For the type of riding i do i like the 88inch. But i just like to cruise, oh and i do miss the Valkyrie power. lol

I have an 04 FLHTi Bored to 95 CI, head work... bigger valves, re-cammed with geardrive....97 hp, 98 torque.... Runs GOOD!... a mild build that really likes to run at 80mph on trips... right in the middle of the cam..... A twist of the throttle will make it JUMP at 80 mph.... still gets 45+ MPG.... A nice stable mate for the Valk!!!! Hey... variety IS the spice of life!!!!!!! I just like moto scooters...... .

I have a 99 Road Glide. It started life as 88 cubic inches, fuel injected. I love the bike, but stock it was rather anemic. Initially I rode it as built for around 2,000 miles, and then went to the larger bore cylinders, and the free flow Stage I air cleaner. Not much difference for the money!!! So, then Harley announced (after the whole HD community know about it anyways) that they had problems with failure of cam bearings, and that AFTER FAILURE they would repair the bike under warranty. So, instead of riding around on a ticking time bomb, I decided that the time was right for new roller style cam bearings, and since the labor was on my nickel, the time was right to change to a set of "torque" #203 cams. That made a BIG difference, and was equivalent to what HD had been selling as their "not for highway" Stage II. Since there is never enough HP, a full set of Screaming Eagle HTCC Heads, pistons, even "tourqueier' grind cams, etc, etc, etc. went in next. Now we were talking!!! That's what I have been riding for the last 50,000+ miles with no issues what-so-ever. It dynos out at just over 100 HP, and 103 Torque. I like it, and it has plenty of grunt, and yet still delivers an average 35-38 mpg. I have no idea what cams, heads, etc. you are running in your HD, but if the dyno numbers you gave are correct, then you changed more than just cylinders. BTW, I don't know if you know how HD arrived at the various displacements, but here is a quick run-down: 88 inch Twin Cam + larger bore cylinders = 95 inch 95 inch + longer stroke crank = 103 inches. Here is where it gets funny: 88 inch + longer stroke = 96 (standard from 2007 through 2011). I am not too fond of stroker motors since the longer distance the piston has to travel each rev makes for more distance the piston has too travel, increases piston speed and wear. It does yield more torque typically, but it's really an old truck engine trick. But, hey, that's just my opinion. What you did was to take the same cylinders that are on my 95 inch, and put them on your 96 inch, which made it now a 103 inch motor. Incidentally, 103 is the new standard for 2012 and until they do something else. The 103 is a good motor, since the relationship of bore to stroke is more in line with a performance motor again. (If the bore and stroke were the same, the motor would be said to be "square".) So I think you will be happy to ride the 103 inch motor. It should serve you well. And if you want to go faster, you can always take out the Valkyrie, and have the best of both worlds.

I just purchased a 2012 FLSTC to keep with my 2001 Valk Std. Easy ride but I'd never give up the Valk. and the 103 HD is still not as fast.

Here is our 103", but it is an S&S motor. Light weight and it will give the Valkyrie all it wants to 105. If I'm riding the S&S and my son is on MGM I can run him in the ground to a little over 100, then it takes him awhile to catch me. My fat arse stops the wheel spin on take off of either bike. I top out at 108 per GPS on the 103". Then the Valk starts to pull away. Just normal highway riding, I'll take the Valkyrie 99 to 100 times. That S&S is a rough riding little girl.

I did the demo rides this summer at my local Harley dealer. Liked both the 103 and the 110. Would like a new Road Glide with the 103 but not going to happen for a while, still have 2 in college.
In a perfect world, I would still have my Interstate and my 05 Electra Glide Classic.
Guess I should have married a rich women, then I could have all my toys.
Ride Safe,

I think the least you'd want to do with that 88 motor is upgrade the POS cam chain adjusters to gears or what's in the 2006 super glide

Al,
How do you like the Road Glide? Thinking that will be my next bike. The stationary fairing would not take much to get used to, had a 1200 Wing.
Would like to hear your thoughts on the bike.
Thanks,
Popeye

Hey Popeye, my wife had a 2001 Road Glide (stolen), and I have a 2001 Road King with windshield and Batwing fairing. My opinion was that the balance and handling of the Road Glide was much better. But since the fairing is pretty far forward and I'm a hair under 6', I got a lot of wind over and around the fairing. Could probably fix most of that with a different windshield. I do believe the newer models have a different angle to the windshield.

With the upgrade in 2006 on the Dynas and the 2007 and up everything.
The hydraulic or oil pressure driven cam chain adjusters why would anyone go with a noisy arse gear drive cams.
Never need to adjust anything on the new Harley Systems, including the valves.
Perfect is the new system so I will keep my 2007 for a while.
33,000 and riding like a new one. Better with the upgrades of open air cleaner and tru-duals with Vance and Hines Fuel Pack.
All these features can be added to any 88 twin cam, nothing is not upgradeable on the Harley.

Thanks for the offer Mark. I have the instructions that I down loaded from Andrew Cams. Picked up a dial gauge a few months back. If the run out is outside of specs I may just upgrade to the hydraulic set up.
