Jess ( 6juggs ) and Frank Smoak both from South Carolina started this " Kiss My Ice Ride " many years ago. Both have all but left the VRCC as you never see Frank post and Jess is very rare these days as well. It's not my ride but I plan on going I've made every year but ( 2 ) I think . Last year ( 4 ) of us left Knoxville, Tennessee in the pouring rain and it just got worse as we entered the I-40 gorge into North Carolina it got so bad ( clouds, fog , pouring rain ) it became unsafe to be on a motorcycle. We stopped in Hot Springs and was told it was snowing hard pass Asheville so we knew Mt. Mitchell was a no go for 2011....Fingers crossed for better weather this year....Bring It....LET'S RIDE

I think it was 2007 it was 23 degree's on Mt. Mitchell with 25 mph plus wind and spittin' ice and snow....Then in 2008 or 2009 we rode up and I was in a sweat shirt with the sleeves pushed up .That's the highest, coldest and most windy place in the south the weather can turn on you in a heartbeat....No fair weather riders allowed on this one if you say you're going then be there

Sigh... I just double checked... I'm primary on-call over Christmas and New Year's...
I'm... over 50... and this will be the first year I've ever woken up at my house (as opposed to my family or Carolyn's family) on Christmas day...

Don't knock heated gear; it will keep you warm and save your life! I have had it for 3 years now and wish I had had it a long long long time ago! Dubs

Well sad for me but good for you. As much as I love bikes family is more important and now you'll be able to say you woke up at YOUR house this time and maybe you won't get called! Lol!

Well it'll probably be zero on Mt Mitchell! Ummm, you're having me rethink this thing! I know, when it's 25 degrees I'll just see how far north I can go. Then if I have to wimp out I can tell Joe ahead of time.

Ha ha, No I'm not knocking it but just can't afford it right now. I've priced it and for quality gear it aint cheap! If I lived up north I would've had it with my first bike. Where I live I really can't justify spending that kind of money. It has been known to be in the 60's 70's in January and I hope it's this time!
