I was cruisin' home from work in the East bound HOV lane on 635 when I noticed a kid in a rice rocket cutting across three lanes from the right heading towards the fast lane. I started slowing and moving to the left of the lane 'just in case'. The traffic in all of the East bound lanes suddenly braked hard. The danger to me came from the lady that freaked out at the kid appearing in her mirror while she was breaking and she swerved into the HOV. She saw me coming fast and so she moved as far right as she could go; stopping with her right side tires sitting on the double lines. I held my breath as I squeezed between her and the wall still going about 35 MPH. I thought I was going to hit either the wall or the car with my highway pegs but I made it.
If she hadn't looked in her mirror...
Chuck
Be safe out there!

I love the HOV lane on 635 and I hate the HOV lane on 635.

Well put, GF! I'll take the HOV to Las Colinas in the morning, but I go home any other way. Increases my odds of survival some hopefully? ~Jeff

I consider myself lucky considering I ride in excess of 300 miles a week commuting down 75 and across 635. The occasional close call is a good reminder to pay attention every second in the saddle. This one was close enough to convince me to order a vented summer jacket so I can have some armor between me and them.

It really is noticeable the number of inexperienced riders out there lately. I hope all of us die of old age - shouldn't be too much longer now for me! ~Jeff

..be aware of your surroundings, but enjoy your ride, when your body takes a pounding, get back on and ride, when you think it might be over, consider where you've been, just get back on it and ride her again.

Good advice Tom. I have been riding since '74 and other than motocross and enduro racing haven't had a wreck since '75. They say it is not a matter of if but when we will have an accident on our scoots; I hope that my slide down the highway in '75 was the one for me. I would rather not have that particular experience again.
I could hardly wait to get the bandages off so I could hit the road again but that was long ago and I was very young.

Its the same problems we see here in Norway. Two road casualties here last weekend. And this is a very small city with 20000 inhabitants. One motor cyclist was hit by a car in a traffic circle and one head-to-tail collision. I often ride with my video camera running. Look at this video, at 1:35 (One minute / 35 second) a brown car stoppes at a crossroad. I was sure he was aware of me, but..... You dont always have a escape plan ready.
