We live on the 7th fairway of a local golf course here in Winter Park, FL. It's a straight-away par 5 hole, fairway is about 100 yds. wide and our house is at about the 150 yd. marker. Every morning without fail, barring total inclement weather, we get this rainbow of old timers walking the course...always the first group to come through, or nearly so. A couple days ago I was out back pulling what I hope is the last crop of weeds around our palms, when I hear "fore" coming from the direction of the tee box. I learned a long time ago that you don't look first, you duck first then look. Sure enough, I hear this "plop" nearby and up rolls a ball, but I don't see any golfer(s) in sight. I continue my chore and soon hear someone say "I'm sorry, did I hit anyone?" Here comes this guy and his little buddy, the first guy is dressed to kill....my eyes!! He had on a bright yellow pair of shorts that were below his knees, bright yellow polo shirt and a matching cap, the shoes were white and socks white/yellow argyle. His little buddy didn't look big enough to push or pull his cart, it was almost the same size as he was but he was trudging along following a huge cigar. Seems they had both hit a bit off to one side where the course curves, but still inbounds. So all they did was hit more or less in the blind and hope they didn't hit anyone, sending both balls sailing over three houses and landing a few feet behind our place. I figured what the heck, they're having fun and getting exercise, but was amused by their outfits.
This morning, I'm sitting out back with my morning cup'a joe and who should come trudging along; our splash of color from a couple days ago plus some additional players, all about the same age. They're all much older than me so you know they're getting up there. Our friends from the other day were not to be missed. The colorful one today was in BRIGHT orange knickers, a matching polo shirt and the traditional matching cap/hat. The socks were orange/white argyle with white shoes. I think he could play at night with no trouble! His little buddy was a wild man today, wearing yellow walking shorts about six sizes too big. He is so skinny I swear he took three steps before his shorts ever moved.

He also had matching socks, shirt, & cap....and still following that huge cigar. All their buddies were similarly dressed but none as colorful as these two.
From time to time, they'll get backed up on the green and these two will stand and wait under a tree a short distance from my lot. If I see them I'll always give them a shout and they love to chat. Would you believe....their names are Al and Hal! And, they've been playing together for 60 years, both love to point out they finally are able to shoot their age. To this day I have no idea which one is Al and which is Hal. I just know they are fun to watch.
Sorry if this was boring, it's one of those "you had to be there" moments. As you all well know, people are fun to watch, these two just add their own flavor to the mix.
