Looking for some assistance...waiting for my rear speaker wiring harness to come in.  I have already done the mods to the plastic housing for the speakers; however when I purchased the bike the previous owner had optd not to have rear speakers.  Looking for some suggests reference running the wiring harness from the speakers to the right side cover plug-in.  cooldude

Thanks in advance,
Juan

I added an IS trunk to my Standard, and it is easy to run/hide the wires...

The bottom of the trunk, is in two parts.  The inner section of the trunk lifts out of the outter (painted) portion, giving you access to the area between the inner liner, and the outer shell (maybe 6 screws if I remember right).

Running the wires to the right side cover follows the wires for the lights in the trunk.

Hope this helps.

Mine came with speakers, the harness runs along the trunk rail up to the outside surface of the trunk (next to the passengers right butt cheek) held in place with two clips in holes I will assume you will have to drill. Wiring then goes in the bottom of the right speaker housing to the right speaker then behind the backrest to the left speaker housing. Is the harness new with instructions?
I can take pics for you if you need them.

Thanks for the responses cooldude

Waiting to for the harness to arrive...I hope it comes w/instructions.

Thanks for the offers on the pics Black Dog, if it is not too much for you to upload them otherwise, I'll wait until the harness comes.  I ordered it thru my local honda dealer (they don't charge me shipping).

Do NOT drill into the trunk. The harness should come with 2 little question mark shaped plastic pieces to hold down the harness coming from the side cover to the right speaker. Then it goes under the passenger backrest( 3 nuts to remove in the trunk) and  into the left speaker housing to complete. 2 beer job at the most. cooldude

Yes, it can be done that way... much easier. The only problem I had was that the harness from Electrical Connection had a LIGHT GRAY covering on it instead of the black as shown on the picture on their website. If I would have mounted it external of the trunk it would have stuck out like a sore thumb.

I changed it into a 4 beer job (iced tea in my case) and drilled the bottom of the truck, the inner trunk liner (near the two tabs at the hinges), and the trunk lid (near the hinges) into the back of the speaker pods. Little more work, but very clean install in my opinion.

ptgb, or anyone with the answer.....

I would like to ad the rear speakers to my 99IS.
I have the trunk completely apart now as it was just painted.
Seems like a good idea to bury the speaker cables in the trunk like you mentioned.

Would you have a picture? I'm especially interested in seeing the entry point from each speaker into the trunk.
Did you need to leave an inch or two of slack?

Best regards,

Glenn

The hole in the bottom of the trunk used for the lighting harness also works perfectly for the speaker wiring entry.  To get from the trunk body to the speaker housings, I copied what Honda did on the Goldwing, like this:

The speaker wire enters the pod right at the upper hinge half.  The other exposed wire is for the illuminated spoiler.
