Hello guys!

it has been a long time since I was on here..
I got med-evacted out of Afghanistan in Late December of 2009.
In July 2010 they did surgery and put my back back together, PTSD and MTBI are still issues that we are working on ;-) ......

While I have not yet got my Valkyrie Trike [Emphasis on the"YET"  coolsmiley], I did pull my 1985 Magna out of deep storage and have it redone.......

This thing has set in the back of the barn since 1991.......
Pulled it out, still had air in the tires!!!
My guy, cleaned the carbs, Changed the fluids, put fresh gas in it, hit it with starter fluid and it cranked & started.... turned over very slow however and blew LOTS of smoke!
Adjusted the carbs and changed the oil again and tried it again....... turned over faster and ran like a raped ape till it blew the oil filter off.......
Changed the oil agin this time with a new filter, readjusted the carbs and it was on the road for tests......

Since then, have replaced the battery, new rubber, new fuil pump, and for about a thousand dollars she's back on the road.....  laugh

The chrome is ratted out from 20 years in the garga but, I have an answer for that!!!

I am going to get a couple 20mm Ammo cans and a friend is manufacturing baskets to hold them as Saddle bags.... Then, I am having it painted WWII OD Green, all chrome will be painted flat black or zinc chromate.....

Everybody I have told this plan to with hardly an exception turns up their nose and makes a comment along the lines of, "That'll look like Dog crap..." or man you're goina' trash a good bike...." And then after they think about it for a little bit they come around to the idea.....

I am being medical'ed out at Ft Knox sometime by the summer.... I really hope that I can get a Valk by then and ride with you guys in the spring when the weather gets good again.....
If I don't have a valk by then, I hope that maybe you guys might lower your standards a little bit and maybe let me ride my retro Magna with you till I find that VALK........

I would like to say thanks to all the messages and camaraderie while I was in Afghanistan... It was a rock of sanity to anchor to.... That might sound crazy to anyone that hasn't been there but let me tell you..... Dreams of Valk rides and seeing the pictures of the rides really helped a lot! So, again Thanks.....

It's your bike, do whatever the heck you want with it.

Heal up quick and thank you for your sacrifice.

Thank you for your service!  Customize it the way you want, it's yours by the way.

Sounds like a neat retro build to me.

Hope you get your back in tip top shape again.

There is a guy in my neighborhood that has ammo cans for bags on a older Honda (500 I think) He also had most of the chrome painted black and most the tin is painted OD green. I think it looks great! Good luck and have fun!

Welcome back and thanks for your service.

Make sure you address and have documented in your Service Medical Records, every single medical issue you have BEFORE you transition from Military to USDVA.  Get a good separation physical examination, and ask for a hearing audiogram test before you separate.

If you have any questions on this subject feel free to contact me thru my profile.

thank you for your service of this great land. hope the physical and mental rehabilitation is neither long nor painful. the only pre requisit is that you post pics of the bike during and after the modifications and also of the trike once you find the one for you. as far as sharing the wind with you, it would be an honor to do so.

Good deal, I have always wanted a military themed Bike, mebby Flying Tiger, grey with rivet lines, oil streaks, and bullet holes.  Of course the sharks teeth too.  Might do my 1400 Concours like that.  Vietnam here, thankfully I came back relatively unscathed except for the Agent Orange thing, will be praying for your recovery, physically and mentally.  When VA has their doctor evaluate you, beware of the after exam ambush chat the Dr will want to conduct.  Dont fall for the good buddy routine like I did.  Thats where he will try to discount as much as he can get away with.  Hope to see you at Inzane, dont worry about the Valk, I will probably be on my ZX14, just to carve pieces out of the aweaome Boston Mountains.  This is an awesome bunch here and probably the best support group anywhere period.

Mister Bell, two years is a long time. Glad the surgery went well, and that you are healing. Your plans for the Magna sound awesome, and these guys even let scooters ride with them. Thank you for your service and sacrifice, there are a few Valk trikes here, you will absolutely love yours. Hope to ride down the road with you one of these days, please keep us posted as to your progress, bike, trike,  physical and emotional.

Oil filter blew off because it had been on the bike for 20 years and rusted........
To much pressure........

And thanks guys.... I am suppose to  come into a little money here soon and think that the Valkyrie will be a nice retirement present......

I just can't really decide what I want though or color......

Know what I'd like (I think).....

But we will see what the fates bring.....

Well neighbor, you can ride with me any time.  Are you currently at Ireland Army?  I installed a few wings of the nurse call system there.  Thanks for your service, and no one minds other bikes joining in our rides.  We can't convert others unless we make them jealous first.

Prayers up for you and may your recovery be as complete and speedy as conditions allow. It always takes longer than we want it to, but trust me, these things run on their own schedule!

God Bless, pardner - I'd ride the river with you anytime.

I second Jess' suggestion.    I'd make it if I had to crawl.

Thank you for your service.  Korea 1950 - 1952. and 2nd time March 52, August 52, this trip cost me 5 Purple Hearts.

Been through lots of surgery and all I will say is, the pain can be hell, but just think of you getting to riding later.

Now since I'm 85% restricted in riding, I'd ride anywhere anytime with ya, but, ya got to put up with this noise maker.

Ind.  If you don't have your Valk by next spring, I will bring mine over and trade your for the day.  Army green is cool.  What part of the southern Hoosier State do you hail from?

From one Vet ('Nam) to another, thanks for the personal sacrifices you made for our Country!  cooldude

I hope you continue to heal mentally, physically, and financially so that you can enjoy some of the things we all take for granted.  Embarrassed

As for your bike, whatever makes you happy is what you should do! I had an '84 V-65 Sabre, and I can tell you that those were and are fantastic motors. There is a Trike shop at Destination Daytona, and last week while I was there I saw a beautiful black and Chrome Valk (either Std. or Tourer - hard to tell when Triked) for just under $16k.

Welcome back to the board. I joined after you left, and I found that there are some really good folks on here that will do anything for you. Smiley

Thanks again, and welcome back!

I'll up the ante here.  When you find out the day you will be seperated, post it on the board.  I'll do everything I can to come to Ft Knox and see you off or ride with you if you want ( or you can climb on the back of the Big Red land elephant and we'll ride).  No better way to celebrate a new start to a new life.  Who knows might be able to talk some of the other riders on this board to do the same.  Hell, don't need much encouragement to ride.

Stay tough. Many of us know what you have and are going through as a combat vet.
